Ok we will have to agree to disagree on the notion that Lewis's fan loyalty depends on how many times he comes to Goodwood. And yes I just started getting back on F chat, this year, but have been a Hamilton fan since 2007. I won't fault you for misjudging me though, it's all good

Fun fact: In 18years, Jenson has only missed 1 year of Goodwood

Au Contraire, you should really peruse the first 100+ pages for ample evidence to the contrary, noting that some of the filthier stuff has moderated out. It's really only a handful of posters this applies too though.

Jenson is a class act ... the other end of the spectrum compared to Lewis, although Lewis just edges it in terms of raw speed.

Again: this is not his spare time, none of the active racers is there in his spare time. This is time for the PR department of his team and I am sure that is specified in his contract how many days he has to do...
And only a fraction of the visitors at the FoS are showing off and drinking champagne, just as it is a fraction of the GP visitors. Most of the 200k attendees are more into Fish&Chips and a beer standing at the hill or the assembly area enjoying everything that is loud and makes smoke.
With the prices for the entry in the same region as the entry to the F1 GP I would say those are pretty much the same people coming...

My guess is that his contract at Mercedes prohibits him from driving any other race/demonstration. I mean, if he slides off the road and is injured, you are throwing away hundreds of millions for Mercedes.

Most sports contracts have these clauses. Alonzo was able to drive at Indy because the team gave him permission, to keep him happy and to make money.

Hammy driving at Goodwood is a recipe for trouble.

I am no Elton fan, but don't expect him to do this.

Mercedes had Bottas demonstrating the car. If that was really an issue, they'd have a reserve driver demonstrate the car or even hire a cheap demonstration driver, rather than one who is scoring them points.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I don't think that is necessarily true.

Bottas and Elton are under contract with Mercedes. If Mercedes tells them to do something, they do it.

My point is this . . . Elton is a ****** in many ways. No need to blast him over something that is likely controlled by the team.

Drivers are usually contracted to do a number of days for PR.
I remember when I was working with SHELL, sponsoring McLaren at the time, we were organising conférences for our retailers, our staff, and some clients.
Often we couldn' get Senna to appear at these conferences, because we were told he had only signed for 10 days of PR per year.
But we could get Prost more often; he had signed for more PR days in his contract.
As a substitute, we could get McLaren reserve driver Jonathan Palmer who was available most of the time.
To be honest, Palmer was a better speaker than Senna or Prost, at least to an English-speaking audience, and could explain intricate F1 détails, rules and régulations better than the two I already mentioned.
I also remember that once McLaren had to hire Nick Heifeld to drive their car at Goodwood Festival of Speed because their contracted drivers wouldn't do it.
People do not understand these things, and make silly comments sometimes

I think they're just highlighting it's rather strange. Lewis keeps going on about ''the best fans ever'', yet doesn't bother showing up for any events. Excuses are made up but for some reason other current F1 drivers can and will make it...It was mentioned that Jenson Button missed just 1 event during his F1 career, and I remember the interview when he said how sad he was he couldn't make it (I think it was a GP weekend).

We almost always have Lewis' teammates show up but never Lewis himself. Whether it's for Goodwood, F1 London Live, Autosports awards...(**** even Kimi goes to all of that and he hates doing any of this ****!). Some are making the excuse that Lewis had to see his best friend ever Serena Williams at Wimbledon....but how could he have known in advance that she'd be in the Final? Maybe he has a neat crystal ball he hasn't told anyone about...

Tell you what though, he's managed to somehow make his legion of fans believe he deeply cares for all of them, they defend him to (seemingly) death, yet actually doing less than most other drivers in return. Neat way of getting out of PR events I guess.

It seems that Lewis Hamilton doesn't like appearing at public events, by the look of it.
Anyway, that's his life. I can understand his position too.
There will always be critics trying to find flaws in his chararacter at every opportunity.
The guy delivers when it really matters: 65 GP wins so far ....

This thread should be deleted, it serves no purpose other than to stir up emotions, good and bad, mostly bad, about a driver the tifosi have no time for because he drives AGAINST us

And saying someone sucks who is an F1 driver is plain silly ......... he can obviously drive , ............ just NOT for the right team :)

And all the other _*_*_* sucks threads should go to, Kimi does not suck

Is that why he went to Wimbledon instead and intended to go to an English World Cup final...for privacy? ;)

Schumacher is still one of my favorite drivers. I still admire what he and Ferrari accomplished. His fans during that time who attended Goodwood would have loved to see him. I have to ask, what are you all thoughts on him being arguably the biggest F1 icon of all time and not going to a single Goodwood?

According to GPToday, Mercedes has offered Lewis Hamilton a deal that would make him the highest paid F1 driver in history.

Lewis Hamilton is about to sign a 3 years extention contract Worth 170 millions of dollars.

He would remain contracted to Mercedes 'til the end of 2021.

    Who sucks now ?

Lewis Sucks. Money does not change that.

Lewis is a petulant little child who is spoiled. Like a child, he thinks he can say anything and have us believe it. He is just playing to the cameras.

Geez. Nobody is saying he can't drive. We are saying he is a twit.

Come on. Goodwood? Is that really the sword you want to fall on?

Geez, if we are going to go to the mat about racing, how about we do it for something good, like the Nordschleife or LeMans?

I read your post regarding my question. Respectfully, Hamilton was not around during the hight of Schumacher's career. So he had nothing to do with Shumi not attending a single Goodwood. Let me try to reframe my question, what are you all thoughts on Shumi not attending a Goodwood when multiple other Ferrari drivers has been there?
