Do I need a PPI if buying a used Ferrari from a Ferrari dealer?

    In the process of securing a used Ferrari with around 1500 miles. It’s a 2015 458.

    Do I need to get a independent PPI done the vehicle before puchasing? Or should I trust the dealer? It is being bought from a authorized Ferrari dealership.

    Thanks for the input.

    I didn't get one when I bought mine from scottsdale ferrari. you have the 7 year maintenance with a 2015 so really nothing to worry about.

    id just check the panels for paint measurement. dealer shld have serviced the car once a year. no need for a ppi on a 15

    I'd worry more about getting the dealer to toss in an extension on the warranty or something along those lines

    If the car is out of warranty, I always get a PPI.

    The car business just has too many shady behaviors to warrant not taking precautions. It may not necessarily be the dealer you're buying from trying to hide something, the person they acquired the car from could have hid something from the dealer.

    I didn't get a PPI when I bought my 360 from a Maserati dealer (have put 16,000 trouble fee miles on it) and I didn't get a PPI on my 458 when I bought it from a McLaren dealer. However, I'm also not afraid of my own shadow like most Ferrari owners :cool:

    I bought from an authorized F dealer. Car 2014 was under warranty and FSH. Got a PPI done. It showed up several minor defects. I had those all corrected at the dealers cost, prior to me paying the balance and taking delivery.

    IMO I get a PPI regardless as arguing over who pays for defects after you've driven off, is always a **** fight.
    It also gives me a good time stamped document to add to the cars history file.
    Me - PPI always (including a hoist lift check).

    I bought a 2013 458 with 2900 miles from Algar. Getting a PPI never occurred to me. The car proved to be flawless in every way.

    That's a good result and would most often be the case. However there are plenty of bad luck stories as well. The mileage on the car doesn't reflect how it's been used, or any damage it's had.

    A small percentage of the early cars did indeed have problems but the majority did not. We always hear about the former, but never about the latter.

    There was a thread some time ago where someone bought a car from an F dealer and found out after the fact it had been hit and repainted. That said , I also bought a used 458 spider from Ferrari Palm Beach with no PPI and had zero issues. So proceed with caution and ask plenty of questions. Best , Kirk.

    everyone probably should, but hardly anyone does on the newer Ferraris still with some factory warranty. most independents wouldn't be able to identify things deep in the drivetrain without the latest factory diagnostic equipment and software. dealers also work on more of the late model cars, so know better what to look out for and what's been causing problems. that said a dealer needs to make money, so is there a gap between what they will tell you needs fixed if you just walked in with your car off the street vs. what they will fix before reselling, yes!

    Enough had issues that it should be considered, it is an expensive fix. A friend of mine has a 14' that they could not repair and he ended up having to replace the trans but fortunately he has the extended warranty. After his experience I would not risk not extending the warranty.

    Not in the traditional sense, but do your due diligence.

    Points to consider:

    Look the car over in person, if something peaks your interest, ask. Maybe even go as far as to ask your questions in writing, so there is no misunderstanding.

    Request to see the work order from when the car was accepted by the dealership. Normally , but not always, A Ferrari would be put through the service department for an inspection of some sort.
    By asking to see this , you would be able to see two things.
    1. What items the Service department made note of
    2. What items the sales department approve / what was not approved

    This can give you a better idea of what's what as well as what may need attention or not. You may also ask if they printed out a listing of stored faults and if any were present.

    If you can negotiate a New Power Warranty into your deal, even better for piece of mind.

    In my opinion if you are buying from a Ferrari dealer and it’s CPO , or CPO qualified it’s a moot point for a ppi since it’s already been thru the inspection process for the new power warranty. And considering some of the issues that could be encountered a new power warranty is good peice of mind especially for someone new to the brand. I would buy the new power warranty personally but there are plenty of folks that are comfortable without it. I can see paying Ferrari for an inspection on older models but for this new I’d probably not worry especially from an F dealer.

    I bought a 2012 458 in 2016 from a Ferrari dealer, the car qualified for CPO, which I then negotiate a 1 year Ferrai warranty when I puchased the car...good piece of mind...no PPI required when you do it that way

    I read it on FCHAT not long ago and the outcome was the 458 in question was traded for a 488. They did post pics too. I’m sure someone or a mod could find it and post it up. Best , Kirk
