I don’t how many of you commenting on this thread have raced , it is very easy to criticize from the sidelines . I have been racing for many years now , I have driven some very fast cars , nothing as fast as an F1 car in a race series but fast enough to have pulled some bonehead moves of my own that resulted in some pretty nasty crashes . All it take is a fraction of a second of distraction , it happens and it happens to the best drivers too , we have seen it numerous times in F1 and today , Vettel made a mistake that might or might not affect his WDC . It does not mean that he sucks , he is human , like the rest of us. I think the WDC and constructor’s championship is wide open , Ferrari and MB are making it interesting for a change , if only the on track racing was a touch more stimulating for the viewers .

That was the era, when I was in high school, that I started following F1. The Hunt/Lauda epic was from my senior year of high school to my freshman year of college.

"It was clear that there was an infringement of the above mentioned rule - the driver clearly crossed the line separating the pit entry from the track."

LOL - FIA and STEWARDS you have ZERO credibility - Z E R O. There is ZERO negotiation over this statement above. P A T H E T I C. Just burn the regs and forget we have them.

I love the “mitigating factor” excuse. Please.

The only mitigating factor is that it’s Lewis and Merc. Not good for plublicity, not good for their resident celebrity not to win the WDC. I don’t hate Lewis at all but he should be treated with equal scrutiny despite his popularity outside of F1 even if it costs him the win.

These things tend to work both ways. How would we feel about this leniency if it was one of the Ferraris that committed this infraction? Right . . . I thought so.

    Bring on Hungary . . . .

My posts would be the same. You cannot think for a minute any team or driver should get a pass from the ruling as stated. Sainz broke a rule and was issued penalty. The same for LH or Vettel if it was him. The rule is utterly clear in this case.....Id expect Ferrari to suffer a penalty and to learn from it. This ruling now allows for literal negotiation on rules that are without question, until now.

Well, it's history now. As I said in post #371, I hope this leniency is applied to all in a fair manner in the future.

The whole thing it’s BS to me. Violation it’s a violation regardless the reason. Try to explain that to a cop that pulls you over for speeding. “Sorry officer, I was speeding because there was confusion in my head” good luck with that.

It’s just reality that they apply some context to these things. We see the unequal application of collision rulings also. In this case, Hamilton was told to box and then he received a spastic message not to, which resulted in the infraction.

The FIA does go by the rules sometimes, and by the situation other times. I guess they make judgement calls at the end of the day.

For credibility on such a clear rule....there is no negotiation. If the team mis calculate that is racing. End of. LH or Vettel or any other driver should have entered and passed through. The rule is clear. Ask Sainz.

And the context being, that it was under the SC that probably also contributed to the decision made.

Let it go. If Hamilton had got a penalty we would have a war around here. Now FIA owes one to us.

In short, Mercedes won the German GP because Ferrari lost it.

Fantastic come back from Hamilton. Vettel cracked under pressure (?).

All is still to play before end of season.

F1 races are less boring this year, with a good mix of winners.

Toto is well aware, hence the team order as Bottas was attacking LH. Toto knows they have no answer to the Ferrari upgrade's so far. They need all the points they can obtain now.

Per my post above... the only mitigating factors here are the driver and the team.

If “mitigating” circumstance are the guiding principle, then why the ten second penalty for Seb who accidentally blocked Carlos who was not hurt at all by the action and went to Q3. If that’s not benign, then I don’t know what is. F1 is heavily invest with Merc and their celebrity driver. Hanging on boats with the Khardasians, bringing the supermodel that’s only famous because of her skin condition, being photographed on yachts in exotic locations living the dock star life is awesome for F1 in their eyes. A quiet private guy who keeps to himself ... not so much.
