https://thesportsrush.com/lawrence-stroll-has-bought-force-india/ If confirmed ... what now for Williams/ Perez/Ocon etc?
How do you fire your own kid? How do you negotiate for a raise from your dad? Let's face it... it's one hell of a birthday present
They could ,but with losing Martini $$ and now the Strolls $$ who is going to pay for it all? Sirotkin brings something but is that enough?
1-Drivers market domino effect starts....now! 2-RIP Williams...unless Toto comes to the rescue: he has been talking about it publically, to make it a junior team. Let's not forget he used to be a shareholder at Williams until just a few years ago.
Williams needs Papa Stroll's money. Otherwise -- bye bye. They lost Lance and they lost their main sponsor.
They will want to place George Russell in a car for 2019..provided he continues to shine in F2, so yes Williams would be a good start.
It should be pointed out that the two German sources cited disagree with as of Monday Auto Motor und Sport saying Chapter 11 equivalent most likely as nothing is decided whereas Autobild seems sure Stroll has done a deal
Well this is very interesting. Kubica should be able to come up with a little money...I thought he had about 8 million in sponsor money when he was competing for the job. He is the most logical choice to get Williams through to the end of the season. And perhaps Stroll dumping Williams will be like McLaren dumping Honda. Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Or...maybe Stroll will actually get better with a better car...anything can happen. And maybe McLaren and Williams will join forces and try to mix and match the best of what they've got. I'd like to see Kubica have some real race time to see what he can do.
Does that mean Stroll will be in a FI car for Hungary? Which driver will be out of a seat, Perez or Ocon? Interesting development!
I doubt anything much will happen that quickly. With the multitude of legal contracts etc to deal with.
Its either Mercedes or nothing. Force India has been for sale for 3 years. Williams cannot last that long without more money from somewhere.
Actually there's a wild rumor (mentioned on Motorsportmagazine I think?) that Lance Stroll sees Robert as technical asset a 'mentor' and wants to bring him Force India as his teammate in the other race seat if this Force India takeover goes through. George Russell would then be installed at Williams with some Mercedes backing...
That joke is so old I heard Branford Marsalis tell a version of it in the 80's. Lots of money and egos in this sport. Williams now needs a white knight.
Come to think of it...Williams is not alone. Honestly, is McLaren in a much better shape? These days, you got a 1st division: Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull Then an aspiring return to first division: Renault. That makes exactly eight cars. The other teams are depending on the wills of their "partner": - Haas and Sauber-Alfa from Ferrari; - Toro Rosso from Red Bull, and this as long as Dietrich Mateschitz remains interested, which, by the way, is valid for Red Bull itself also. Or from their precarious finances first and from their engine provider/partner also: - McLaren, Williams, Force India. Hardly encouraging for the future. But, as far as Formula One goes, since 2014 I've been living in the good days of yore. Rgds
Williams looks more in trouble than Force India ever was. In fact the situation is getting desperate at Williams, I would have thought.
+1 Agree. The expense of these hybrid powertrains and the out of control aero is bankrupting teams. The FIA fiddles while Rome burns.
