True about Bonhams. I just assumed that given the depth of the RM and Gooding lineup that they would be taking on more quality cars as well. As of right now they have 28 consignments for a one day sale, that's about a third of what I would expect the final number to be. RM is already at 143 cars announced for a two day sale!

Traditionally RM will offer between 150 - 200 cars over two full days, Gooding a little less, maybe 125 - 150 while Bonhams have traditionally run 100 - 120 cars. It makes for a very lengthy day although I note Mecum run 400 - 500 cars over three days, Russo & Steel 200+ over 2 days and Worldwide a one day sale of 60 - 80 cars so its swings and roundabouts. Possibly a 1000 cars all up and thats just the auctions, every dealer and their dog will be there hawking all sorts.

Bonhams will announce more cars and might even have something bigger than the SWB but who knows. Gooding have secured some great cars but they usually have more than two $10 million cars, although just two in 2017 (the 275GTB/C and Porsche 917K) while RM are likely the only company to almost completely list their consignments. I would not be surprised to see them all do another round of announcements for something that would be a headline act anywhere else.

Like a good music festival they all know how to manage the release to keep the hype going. I notice one or other of Gooding and RM sat on the Duesy and Aston DP215 in a game of chicken so that the minute one released their lineup the other was ready to steal the thunder as it were lol.

I will put up a full provisional lot list in the next week or so.

RM just finished their catalog so the full lineup should be available Monday or Tuesday. I imagine Gooding isn't far behind. I expect everything to be public by the beginning of August! An exciting year at the auctions to be sure. Looking forward to your full list!

Yes. That is clearly stated. I was referring to the fact that it isn’t covered with livery, as is so often the case. I prefer a clean look whether or not they have a racing pedigree. The only exception I would make is if the livery is original from a meaningful race the car participated in, which I believe is rarely, if ever, the case.

2163 GT was NOT raced in period.
Unfortunately it has been mis-identified in an article published in Cavallino magazine by a British historian.

Ugh! A British historian. They're the very worst kind. Can't trust a word any of them say...

My posts 117 and 121 should say 2163 not 2165 regarding the chassis number of the SWB. Apologies for the typos.

Sometimes I love nit picking. For an expensive car like this, you would expect that everything is perfect.
There is a closeup photo in the URL above of the coil and resistor. They look to me to be a much brighter red than they should be.
And should not the resister be even darker than the coil?

I can’t claim to be an expert on all the small details of a 250 SWB. All I know Is thatvit looks great and isn’t covered with numbers and dots. Hopefully whoever acquires it will keep it clean and correct anything else that may need attention.

OK I certainly agree with no numbers and dots, but they should change the overall car color to something else than red. Red does not bring out the lines of these cars.

No longer need a clearer shot. On this engine, the engine number is shown, 1615 GT (quite faintly unless it's just that the numbers and letter are not in focus), not the tipo.

    2 VEV 0183/R.

The restoration after the 1993 crash was stated in the recent Octane magazine by John Simister to have been carried out by Aston Martin Works Service. In the same magazine dedicated to the history of the car Doug Nye stated it was painstakingly restored and prepared over two years to concours standard by Aston Martin.

DB4 GT Zagato MP209 0191/R is said to retain its original engine, gearbox and rear axle.

Thanks! I had never seen a 540K Special Roadster without running boards. I absolutely love that coachwork, I'm guessing it will demand a premium over other special roadsters? Maybe $13m - $15m?

It won’t be bringing a premium over a normal Sindelfingen Spezial Roadster. It certainly didn’t last time it was auctioned (i.e. which was at RM Monterey about ten years ago).

    250 GT SWB 2163GT.

I wonder if the 15th March, 1969 edition of The Motor in which RM Sotheby's say 2163GT was featured shows an engine picture showing the oil filters? By RM Sotheby's account of the car it would have had its original engine then.

Last time #154080 was offered it sold for $2.53 mil. when a proper Spezial Roadster was worth $4 - 6 mil. Bare in mind #154080 was burnt to a crisp several decades ago and while restored since, that will always hurt while the rather singular Mayfair styling is not going to be to everyones cup of tea.

Looks like you're right. I love the coachwork but it looks like the fire hurt the value. Bonhams has it at $3.5m - $4.5m, great candidate for a drivers car! If I had the money I'd drive it to the golf course every weekend.
