RIP to the man that made Fiat a respectable brand.

 

I read where his last wish was to see Maserati return to formula 1. May it happen next year[emoji844][emoji844][emoji844][emoji634]

I should have mentioned this previously. About 10 years ago when Fiat took over Chrysler, an Italian friend who had a good mate high up in Fiat Marketing, said that the company needed people who knew both the US and Italian cultures. So I sent my CV to Mr. Marchionne. Within a day or two, I had a response from their human resources people thanking me and saying I was put on file, and would be contacted if the need arose. While my background was automotive (components and technology), I didn't have car experience in my background. But I was impressed by the speed at which Mr. Marchionne responded.

 

Sad to see him taken away so quickly from family, friends and fans. I think most of us go into surgery hoping for the best and in this case, the tumor removed. To suffer a stroke, become comatose and lose function of the brain, my heart bleeds for another human being to go thru that.

 

Official statement published today by Swiss University Hospital USZ in Zurich said that Marchionne had be their regular patient for about a year already.

So he knew what was coming. But didn't say a word to anybody, not even to John Elkann..

That puts a different light on the matter...and how he handled it...though he had announced that he would retire next year...

 

Here is the Automotive News article on Marchionne hiding his condition. And as the reporters say, how could he hide it given he was a workaholic, and in constant communication with his superiors and his reports.
