    I don't know.
    It's difficult to say.
Hamilton has been pretty good in the last 5 years.
Vettel was pretty good in the 4 years before.

Who knows? To judge on that the cars they where driving where way too dominant, especially the Mercedes over the first three years of the hybrid era. Maybe the "best" one was not even sitting in one of them...

Alonso.... can bring the best performance from ANYTHING you make him drive. A good car, he will win every time, a bad car, he’ll still drag the thing around to finishes it has no right to make...

Ricci the most exciting (it isn’t Max, because he is too dangerous, Ricci knows how to make it stick)

Most boring - elton.... whining his was around the track every time, whinge whinge, cry cry, bless this, bless that, it’s your fault, it’s not mine etc etc. Even the Samaritans have blocked his number these days!

Rosberg because he beat Lewis in 2016, Button because he beat Lewis in 2011, Ricciardo because he beat Vettel in 2014....We can go on and on but what is your point???
At the end you will come around with stats that suit your point why it only can be Lewis anyway...nothing new here

Why not the FIA stewards...if it is pro-Lewis it is all good and if it is contra they can charge 5-10 seconds penalties or in this case bans...

Alonso cannot be considered the best driver of the last decade; he hasn't won anything since 2013 and has been completely eclipsed by Vettel first, and Hamilton next.

There is just nothing to show that he still has it in him to be competitive again. He doesn't stop blaming his car!

I personally think he sticks with F1 for of the money, and has conned McLaren with fake motivation. He is the problem at Woking, not the solution.

I predicted that he would never win a GP again when he left Ferrari, and so far he hasn't proven me wrong.

He hasn’t had the equipment to win regularly, the ferrari was the closest but that was never a true match for red bull. He then ended up at McLaren driving a shed with wheels, yet still made it go faster than it should (even if that was milk float speed)

Hamilton AND Alonso would dread partnering either Dan or Max, either would kick the arse of both LH and FA

In F1, you deal with reality and not fiction.
Examining the records of the last decade (2008 up to now) shows that 2 drivers come up on top to share the limelight: Vettel and Hamilton.
Alonso was merely a footnote in later years, and only up to 2013, the year of his last win.
So it's useless judging his form based on assumption about the cars he could have driven, or the teams he could have joined.
If, if, if doesn't work in F1.
Alonso couldn't win a title at Ferrari, and when he joined McLaren he signed his own suicide note, IMO.
Alonso's career has been moribund for years and is now dead as a dodo.
I haven't heard that is name if on any team manager's wish list, and for good reason, in my view.

Giles never was a champion, yet is lauded as one of the greatest drivers. Plenty of drivers are able to be revered regardless of whether they won a championship or multiple races. Prost is largely ignored despite being a four time champion and one of the best of his generation, while Senna would kick the ass of pretty much anyone of the current crop with his hands tied behind his back. Schumi in his time was the greatest ever, and will never be matched in my opinion, because he was an all road great driver and leader of men.

Alonso had the capability, but not the car, after 2007. In 2007, there was one massive reason that Ron Dennis made sure Alonso wasn’t the number one in the team, but it hasn’t been publicly discussed as far as I know, and I won’t break the confidence of the person that told me. It was not a straight fight, far from it.

Vettel has shown his weakness in his eagerness to win at all costs, losing his concentration at the wrong times making up for the shortcomings of the car, elton has the mental strength of my Mrs in a shop with an unlimited credit card (similar dress sense too sometimes!).

Alonso plays a very strong mental game along with a great all round ability. Ricci is largely untested so far, but I think he is the most likely candidate for best current driver if we are saying Alonso has lost his edge

I never said anything about that.

But you cannot pretend a driver is the best, or better than another one, if he has nothing to show for it .

Let's not kid ourselves here, Alonso has been running on empty for a long time, and misleading a lot of people along the way on false promises ...

Alonso was destroyed by Hamilton back in 2007; he hasn't recovered since.
