Red Bull has always had a one-sided view of partnership.
When they win, they never praise their engine supplier, but if their engine fails, they blame Renault..

He lost his initial early backing way back whenever to Vergne, and has since not been associated with Red Bull, well until now driving for Toro Rosso...not sure that qualifies as "graduating" from the young driver's program...that's like me saying I'm a Stanford alumni, when I only took a few summer courses there.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's getting a bit old my dear. Vettel just threw away a win by parking his car into a wall.

The only thing that Max needs to grow up is his car, it's far from a Ferrari of Mercedes.

Than Max will be a world champion.

If you have an issue with Hartley getting back in the Red Bull stabble, I suggest you have a word with Marko: he brought him back.
I have no dog in that fight.

I'm correcting your statement that Red Bull only pools drivers into F1 from their programme. Hartley is living proof they don't always do.

I'm not sure if people have been paying attention these past couple of years but there's a huge gap between RedBull, the def. No.3 team, and the rest of the field.

I wish Ricc. well, great personality. Renault will probaly pay him well.

I believe that when I see it.

I can think of several driver I would prefer to win the title rather than Max Verstappen.

You seem to spend a lot of time "correcting" my posts.

Do you think I should send them to you first for proof-reading perhaps?

Errrrr okay...how is it my fault again that you seem to be consistently misinformed and habitually trying to spread misinformation?

I'm sure if I hadn't called you out on your sh!et, the many more knowledgable folks on here would've eventually.

    On the other hand...

Have you been paying attention to Honda these past few years? RBR's #3 status is in jeopardy. Renault has floated to the upper end of the midfield. They could easily trade places for two critical years and poach the prize money that accompanies.

Renault is trying hard. They have the resources. They just signed one of the top three drivers. I wish them well.

If you take a look at the current standings, the Renault-powered Red Bull is like MILES AND MILES ahead of the Renault-works team, so if the consensus and assumption is that there is a smaller power deficit with Honda power and the RB-Newey chassis continues to be the best on the grid, then I think it will be a real long shot for Renault to contest that 3rd position in the Constructor's in the immediate short term (next 2 years).

Realistically, I think Honda-Red Bull would have to experience catastrophic unreliability for Renault to stand a fair shot at contesting 3rd in the WCC. 4th is more realistic, and that's if Mercedes-powered Force India is out of the picture.

As of this post, Red Bull have 223 constructor points, compared to Renault's paltry 82.

I'm sure Ricci is aware of this and personally, I think he's looking at the longer-term (beyond 2020) to hopefully be at the center of a works team that can eventually fight for both the wdc and wcc.

Sure, but Renault has the same engine as RB, still a huge gap.

RB had all the time in the world these past couple of months to compare the Renault engine with the Honda engine.

Plus, the Honda engine seems more reliable these days.

As an Aussie I'll tell you why Dan left RB.... Max

He basically says "I'm not playing second fiddle to this **** "

    That's it

    No other reason

Webber should have run over Marko and saved the f1 world from that bastard

I think it could be a good thing for both parties - Renault finally have a driver in the team who is a proven F-1 race winner, something they haven't had since Kubica in 2010. Kimi was in the team when it was Lotus, but that doesn't really count. Heidfeld's had a pole and a couple podiums, but nothing in the recent past.

For DR, getting out from the Verstappen favortism of RBR and into a team that seems (from the outside) to treat their drivers as equals will good for him. Might even get him feeling like a team leader rather than an almost #2. He just might step up and become the #1.

I don't know, but I can get behind his move as a positive.

I’m a Ferrari fan through and through but I’ll be seriously cheering for DR & Renault next year. Daniel is a very rare example of genuine world class talent in a really nice gent.

With respect to Max, his driving skills and courage are other wordly but he’ll only become GOAT if he improves other equally important aspects of his game like decision making. I’m also not sure if he works with engineers to best develop the cars on the level of a Schumacher. It’s as important as driving ability.

Fully agreed on the first part.

Max seems to have put his early season stuff behind him (for now...). He says he hasn't changed a bit but I've noticed he's timed out certain moves better than before. Lets wait and see if he continues that. As for working with his engineers...his dad has prepared him very well including just that.

Yes, it was BS that RB put all their resources into Max. Ricci was clearly second fiddle at RB, but he handled things in a gentlemanly manner. He did not gripe, and let his driving do the talking. He is ahead of his teammate in the WDC, in a car that was tweaked for Max.

It's a massive shot in the arm for Renault to be able to recruit an experienced GP winner.
I also think that Red Bull leaving them, get "the monkey off their back", so to speak, and now they can concentrate on the home team.

I didn't see that one coming!

Quite the gamble that Ricci is taking here, but it could end up being a brilliant move. With RB switching to Hondas, we have no idea where they will be finishing races next year. Renault powered cars could easily be ahead of Honda powered cars on a regular basis. The big unknown will be what Newey can get done. as he has easily put RB well ahead of all other Renault powered cars over the past few years.

    Yep, it's ironic, isn't it ,

RB establishing itself as the only serious Renault-powered team (11 wins) and throwing ithe partnership away to join Honda that has been nowhere near the front since they came in. They really must have faith in Honda.
