Yep, for all us doubters worrying we’ve seen the last of a fast smiler charging around, £20mill buys a very soft pillow to sleep on at night and forget his troubles! It’s also nice to see Renault investing in talent like Ricci because they’ve told us for years they want to progress forward on the grid, but there comes a point where they need to demonstrate it with the signing of an expensive, top line driver that will help get the most out of their package. Alonso remember only went there to bide his time and keep his eye in waiting for his ferrari contract to come into effect, and they were happy to give him a year to drive around and practice!

You are not taking into account the chassis, the competence and resources of each team, and the drivers.

A solid confirmation that Red Bull cared zero for Ricci, Max was the 'default' #1 and are simply cheap to the point of insulting. Early season this year, Ricci made Red Bull a winner as Max proved he was not worth the salary being paid LOL :)

You would think that going from paying multi-millions to have PUs for free plus money, they could afford to pay Ricci as much as Max...

Agree'd. There pay system or decision makes no sense to me as we look at it with the information and results we have .

I think most RB/TR drivers are mostly on a 'low' basic plus a performance bonus depending on results ....except Max?

Yep. If and when Red Bull come to fight for a title again, they'll more than likely back Max.

Even though I think Ricciardo has the bigger marketing potential.

A dedicated #2 for Red Bull is better than a driver of Ricciardo's calibre...he's too skilled and hungry to play #2.

At Renault Ricciardo should easily be #1 driver.

I've always rated Hulkenberg highly, we'll see how he measures up to Daniel. If Daniel thrashes him I will consume crow.

I think Ricci making a huge move like this is great for the sport and the fans. Some drivers get complacent and don't have the balls to make a move like this. Good for him!
He is also a great marketing person too with charisma.
The only problem I see know is just how big Max's ego gets and how RBR will now back him the rest of the year. His father is another tool we will have to deal with too . That's a whole other thread! Haha!

I want to see DR as WDC soon. I think RB going to honda motors is a huge gamble that will not end well. Moving to Renault is sort of like keeping the status quo. He knows what a Renault powerplant can do. If it improves and it's chassis improves Renault could be the best of the rest and maybe challenge Ferrari. When the formula changes I think a committed Renault will prevail since those changes take away aero for improved passing.

I think the Hulk will have the upper hand at the start of the season but Ricci will eventually get a little faster

I’m not sure about that, their power is way down compared to merc and ferrari, where red bull won out was their aero , it made up for the power loss. A move to less reliance on aero isn’t a move in the right direction for Renault unless they can find another 50bhp+

I think hulk is totally overrated. I have not seen an impressive race. He is sort of like Button. Button was super high rated but had a trashcan of a career until his luck with BrawnGP and the blow diffuser supercar that no one could touch. Once the others caught up his lead shrank all the way to the end.

DR on the 1st race with Renault will shine and everyone will be saying "Hulk who?"

You could be right. IF RB has less aero advantage in 2019 and lame power of Honda they will be 1 step above STR. I'm betting on Renault over Honda. I'm thinking a manufacturer like Renault can do a Ferrari and get their powerplant on par. Less aero neuters newey. I still think Merc is sandbagging on power. Hammy 14th to 2nd is pretty telling. I don't think the Ferrari is as good as it has appeared.

    Renault got a great driver!
Hopefully they can fix the car and be competitive again like they used to many decades ago.

Renault got an ok driver, but I doubt he’s that much better than Hulk or Sainz. What Renault have got is great PR, which means $$ to them. What Ric has got is a chance to prove he is top tier, and ‘do a Hamilton’ if Renault can deliver a competitive package.

This possibility would not provide a surprise to me at all. A strong possibility. For all the talk of Max the better passer and team driver is Ricci. Hulk has to raise his game and with this we might see a new Hulk as well. Very excited about this move for Ricci. I have read that when Ricci called Horner to say he was leaving, Horner thought this was a joke from Ricci at first. Bye Christian lol. They clearly took it for granted Ricci would just 'stick around' eh?

Notice they always use a naturally aspirated engine for these types of videos.

Daniel Ricciardo takes the RB7 on the ultimate road trip from San Francisco to Monument Valley before taking a small detour south, to Sin City itself, Las Vegas.
