Was Mini Me the owner when that pic was taken! given the seat location.

Even the Sultan of Brunei cars were red and repainted as part of their conversion by Pininfarina, so just like the 288 it appears they all left the assembly line red and repainted prior to delivery if requested.

My understanding is, all F40s were created in red paint, just as with the 288 GTO.

If someone ordered an F40 in black, I would think the factory outsourced it to Pininfarina to make it black post-production.

In any case, if someone claims that the car was built in black by the factory, the burden of documentary proof is on them.

That's a 1989 F40 GT #80742 which I sold to a previous owner back in 2002. The famous Monte Shell car.

Entered by the Jolly Club and driven by Marco Brand, #80742 won eight races in the 1993 Italian Supercar GT Championship series, en route to winning the Championship.

For the 1994 season, it was updated to CSAI/GT/94 specification, and won five races, again as a Jolly Club entry (but driven by Larrauri, D'Amore and Trione).

1992 F40 94528 was new via Crepaldi Auto SpA to an owner in Mantova, Italy, then to Japan.

    For sale recently via:http://www.exoticcarsofhouston.com/Details/G094528/1992-ferrari-f40

    Was also on Ebay https://www.cafr.ebay.ca/itm/Ferrari-F40/253561819390? & https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-F40/253561819390?

What do you mean by "sold by the conversation of the guy that drove in with another gentleman"?

There were talking about maintenance and "what do I do now as in what does it need to be done". It also had a dealer tag.

What does #94528 have to do with the Monte Shell car (#80742)? Perhaps you intended to reply to a different post containing a photo of a different F40?

Not a real GTE despite various attempts going back to 2006 to sell it as such.

    https://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/09/ebay-find-of-the-day-ferrari-f40-gte-by-michelotto/

This article discusses the authenticity (Google translate)
    http://www.autoblog.it/post/5421/ferrari-f40-gte-michelotto-in-vendita-su-ebay-vera-o-finta

The work was done by a German tuner I believe, and, despite cosmetic similarities, mechanically has not much to do with the Michelotto cars.

There's some discussion going back 10+ years about this car (#91979) on the LM/GTE thread where someone claiming to represent the seller posted some info:

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/136752020

    onwards

I saw the car last at Spa during Ferrari Days 1998.

100% correct, since Ferrari were the first to state that ALL of the F40 made were red. :)
