Well, that’s it then, I guess he’s off to chase down the Indy title.

He's had a great career in F1. I hope he continues racing in Indycar. I think he'll be fantastic there. Indy500 very much on his mind to win.

Could've won more titles but hey ho. Hope he gets the triple crown!

A shame for the sport. Thanks McLaren for your ineptitude.

It was a shame Alonso spent the last few years of his F1 career in a car that was incapable of reaching the podium. His abilities were wasted on anything that couldn't challenge for wins and titles.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Interesting that McLaren didn't announce an Indy effort. The rumors for a while now have been a two car McLaren Indy team ran by Andretti. I'm guessing that isn't the case anymore. I hope Alonso still plans on racing in Indy and he's not going WEC only. That series sucks right now.

It's a shame he didn't get Rosberg's old seat last year. Imagine that!

WEC sucks indeed. I think they're timing the Indy announcing in the coming days to get maximum coverage. I'm sure he'll race in Indy. He wants that indy 500 title.

I can't stop crying..sniff, sniff, how am i gonna keep watching f.1 without him!!! Gp2 engine, Gp2 engine!! what a classic!
Bye bye "pata negra" take your cheating ways, lies and schemes somewhere else....if you go to Indy, please keep blowing some more engines...

Ps: I wish you all the bad luck in racing, but at the same time, i wish you keep safe and don't get hurt, Indy can be a very dangerous place.

I think he'll be back. Indy and sportscars are just an entertainment in his sabbatical year.

would have been epic and amazing for F1.

Unfortunately Toto and Co. have no balls and preferred Bottichello

Fernando will go down as a great driver who made some of the worst career decisions in racing history.

The fact that a person with his exceptional talent can't find a decent team to join just proves that.

Alonso could take a very good team and make them winners. Unfortunately the teams who are in that situation don't want him.

I think he'll do well at Indy. However, the 2018 car is a lot trickier than the 2017 was. I wasn't surprised when it caught out Danica, but I was when Bourdais, Kanaan and Castroneves were.

The days of the Michelin chefs preparing his meals during a race weekend are over. Welcome to Lower Slabovia.

Forget the caviar and champagne. It's Miller time and A ham sandwich

Now he can chase Graham Hill's trifecta of victories at Monaco, Le Mans and Indy. So far he got two out of three.

    Good luck Fernando!

    fixed it for you...

Comparing Alonso's "victory" to Hill's is insulting to Hill.

So how does the line up go now? Looks like the series needs at least three (or four) new high quality drivers.

If Kimi loses his Ferrari seat should he also go to Indy cars? Or would that require too much work for him.

If Stoll goes Force India mid season, and Kubica proves a good midseason replacement, might he keep the seat in 2019?

Drivers who offer money but no real talent. Stroll, Sirotkin. Ericsson,

Drivers who are simply place markers and offer no real talent: Grosjean, Magnusen, Hartly, Vandooren.

If Leclerc goes to Ferrari than Kimi could also go to Sauber.

Or Leclerc goes to Ferrari, and Kimi goes to McLaren (with Ocon), then Sainz could go to Sauber, or to Torro Rosso or to Haas.

Alonzo has added to the fun that Ricci's big change is causing.
