Everyone says it will be a hybrid but the question is to that will we add electric superchargers to eliminate turbo lag or it will just be an evolution of the engine in the Pista?
With the elctric engine we are talking about more than 900hp!! Dear Odin!!

 

I am with the minority who want the new car to be lighter. A heavier, softer, more complex and more powerful luxury car is not going to make it more exciting or fun to drive.
I am not interested in hybrid or AWD or fuel efficiency. I want a lean, mean, high strung supercar! But that is not the way the world is going.

A few months after I got my 458 coupe, I bought a new Alfa 4C coupe, and I was amazed at the purity of it - no arm rest, no glove box, no illuminated ignition switch, the hood doesn't even open! The only carpeting is the floor mat. And I don't miss anything. It makes the 458 feel like a Mercedes or Lexus, at least up to 125 MPH anyway….and of course many owners have said the 488 is even more refined than the 458.....

Perhaps this is the segment the Dino could be designed for....imagine a 4C that is longer, wider, and lower .....carbon tub.....simple but elegant leather and alcantara interior.....less than 3000 lb......500 hp at 9000 rpm from a 3.0 or 3.5 V6.....$200K......sign me up!

 

Respectfully, I disagree, sir. You have a single seater as an avatar, so you might as well be a formula racer. But the 4C is be no means a hard core car, compared to a 458. It might be smaller and lighter, but other than that it doesn't add anything to the experience. First of all, it is too slow (not really slow per se, but slow compared to a supercar), then - in European specs at least - it has a slow and heavy (unassisted) steering. It is also a bit understeery at the limit and doesn't have the power or agility to overcome that. It is a great Lotus competitor, but nowhere close to Ferrari territory.

PS: The "Dino" has been canned. An Alfa with those specs might be on the cards though.

 

Getting quite excited to see what the spec of this will be.
Current plan is to make this my first Challenge car.

I guess it's more correct to talk about 488 FL in 2020.....IMHO

Do tell....do you know why? I presume you mean shorter than expected cycle of 5 years (normally 2020 so therefore 2019?)

The general rule is ~ten years on a platform. The 458 and 488 are on the same platform, just as the 360 and 430 were. 2020 is a reasonable expectation for the new platform.

I don't see the point in adding an electric supercharger. It adds an extra layer of complexity, more plumbing and potentially more issues later on.
If you are going to add a big battery pack, why not use that electricity to spin the wheels directly via an electric motor ?

 

This was changed to 8 years. They can alter this if they choose however.

 

That's why I put the "circa" in there. They could go four or five, they get to decide.

Dealers seemed to suggest Pista allocations are very hard to come by - more so than previous models. Usually production increases so Pista should be > Speciale. But....if the new model is to be introduced a year early (perhaps because emissions laws are changing in Europe this year, for instance) that would explain why dealers are talking about Pista allocations being tight. Other threads have already mentioned there will only be a year of Pista rather than the two the Speciale had.

I’m not suggesting this is the case but if it is true that 488 will be replaced a year early that does fit with what others have claimed.
