Picked up a 2012 458 recently and I'm very much enjoying the car and new experience. This is my first Ferrari and love learning about the car. One thing that I've found peculiar on the car is that when in auto and cruising on the freeway in 7th, flooring the car will only will only automatically downshift to 6th. There's probably room to optimally downshift to 4th, maybe even 3rd but the car will only go (automatically) to 6th gear. Is this just a safety thing? I found it odd in such a performance based car like the 458.
Get that baby out of “auto” bro. Im sorry I can not answer the question as I never drove my 458 in auto. Congratulations on the new rig. Post pics. Best , Kirk.
This is normal and I agree, irritates me as well. The only option you have is to manually down shift to 3rd or 4th and floor it. Not sure if there is an aftermarket mapping that can change the behavior of the DCT down shifting in auto?
I know exactly what you mean, even in Race it does that. Nothing beats Porsche DCT auto mapping. My previous 991 TS would go from 7th gear to 3rd in 0.0001s if you kick down. With the 458 you have to drive manually. Its more engaging sure but you're not always in the mood do manually operate the car specially if its just for an overtake. Other thing that you will notice is that you will miss the 5th LED in the steering wheel and shift too soon (4th LED) or too late (rev limit). The engine really becomes alive at those RPM and you cant be looking at the LEDS, if only Ferrari would make them Yellow, Yellow, Orange, Orange and Red..... Still I love it, its like you have to cars, one until 6500 RPM and another one until 9k. Sound, response, everything is crazy! why am I typing this, I should be driving....
Not too difficult to do : https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/steering-wheel-shift-lights.555459/page-2

Yes Porsche gets this right. Now I am curious if there is some sort of transmission tune out there. Regarding the LEDs this was one of the first mods I did. I opted for R R R B B like Sebastian Vettel Image Unavailable, Please Login
