I cannot stand that “droopy eye” look with those bits hanging down on the sides (the taillights on the car in the link)

I automatically hate any car with that detail.

    Brave announcement. :)

The Le Fil Rouge concept is stunning, so they're off to a good start.

I hope they put those designs on a RWD or AWD power train rather than limit themselves to the FWD market.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

They need to start changing the badges and the Hyunday writings at the back then...

Agree. Every time I see their logo, I think they copied the Honda "H" and made it in italics to be just a little different enough.

Not to mention that, as lovely as Le Fil Rouge concept is, it's impossible not to see half a dozen other cars in it...all nice cars, but still...more emulating than originating (imvho). Certainly lots of cars borrow from other cars, whether from the same designer or somebody else, but when you make a statement about wanting to be sexier than Alfa, I just feel that what you put out there should be very unique.

BTW the interior of LFR is really neat, but those gorgeous, forward-looking interiors always seem to be the first thing to go :(

I have to say, while attractive, I dont think the Giulia or Stelvio are the sexiest cars in their categories. The 4C is pretty sexy but again, nothing revolutionary about the design.

I bought my Stelvio pretty much on looks alone. The fact that it handles and performs as a sports sedan was a bonus ;)
Shopping that size class CUV was so disappointing. I just couldn't get past the looks of most of the entrants. The RR Velar was my 2nd choice. Again on looks.
    I'm very 'design conscious' ;)

They seem to be copying the Mazda concepts wich have already surpassed the current Alfa designs. Hyundai should try being more original also.

Heh, funny, I think my brain automatically went to "the Alfas of yore" rather than the new one...although I do like the 4C and 8C.

Yeah, I thought that about the Mazdas, too...lots of similarities, especially on first glance.

Whose going to Monterey next week? It will be my first time to go to The Quail, and then I will be at the track all weekend. I may go to Pebble if the Singer DLS goes.

Peter Delorenzo of Autoextremist.com decided to repeat one of his more popular columns this week dealing with William Mitchell, VP GM Design, 1959 - 1977. Talk about a rich portfolio of great design. Toros, Rivs, Eldo's and some very cool Vettes, among others. His influence on automotive design is amazing.

The refrain is always that another Bill Mitchell is not possible. I disagree. What it will take is a CEO with the power and the commitment to actively protect Design from the corporate battles and then let the highly talented design leader execute their vision to lead without being second guessed based what every other competitor is doing. Another key part would be corporate acceptance that being a leader may mean that not all consumer likes it. In this regard Bob Lutz made a great comment in one of his books about he would rather have cars that those that loved it were not cross shopping. The alternative was the inoffensive car that really only sold because of rebates and deals.

Another relevant comment came from Chuck Jordan, the man that should have been Mitchell's successor. At GM in those days Design knew where they were going so they were not looking in the rear view mirror to see what Ford and Chrysler were doing.

When my wife and I were car shopping recently, the flying roof and CVT were the two main disqualifying elements of the Nissan Murano. We bought a Ford Edge Titanium V6 AWD and have been extremely happy with it.

I'd say it's highly likely that our next car purchase will be a Ford too. Very little weird crap going on in the designs and their interiors are very practical.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

It's a shame about the Murano because it has such a nice interior. But you really can't go wrong with the newer Edge. Ford seems to be holding on to their Anglo influences (style-wise), which is a great thing imho.

Unfortunately, CEOs today are not product people. I’d say more, but this is not the right forum.
