Something tells me that the bad guy jets in Top Gun 2 are going to look a lot like the bad guy Jets in Top Gun one...

It's a "brand new design" in the same mode that the Tupolev Tu-4 was a "brand new design"! You know, disassemble an American airplane and reproduce it exactly, piece by piece...

Today a copy of an F-5, tomorrow they copy the F-4 or F-14. That could make the hardcore Phantom and Tomcat fans jump for joy.

They probably could have saved some money and just bought a couple off Trade a Plane or Controller.

I hear there are quite a few L-39s up for grabs if they really want to go nuts.

Sure, this thing doesn't have the tech or capability of our machines. But for a domestic build, it's not terrible. Furthermore, they can produce a bunch of these a lot cheaper than we can build --or sell-- one of our modern machines. If Iran wanted to project force locally, a bunch of these will do the job just fine.

It’s a really bad reimagining if an F-5 or something similar. Look at the wing leading edge in the picture with king raghead waving at his pilots. That thing is as thick as the wing on my T-28 damn near. That is nothing like a fighter wing.

Do they really have the resources or finances to build a decent size fleet? It's not like we're shipping them pallets of cash anymore. :D

Hooks are carried by non-carrier fighters for use with Bak-XX and other barriers in emergencies.

Yes, they do, but both the hooks and the wires are really designed for a one-time use, unlike those on the carriers.

If the Iranians claim that that's a "brand new design", it makes you wonder what they're smoking in their hookahs! :D

Don't they already own a bunch of F-5s?

These people really embarrass themselves with childish stunts like this. This is almost as bad as then they displayed their stealth plane...the one with an old OTC civilian radio in it.

I'm thinking one of my Amazon-bought drones could take that thing down easy peasy.

They can't really think their own people are stupid enough to fall for these spin tactics. It's not as if it's North Korea where the people have little to no outside knowledge of the rest of the world's military's. Because I'm sure the rest of the world is just shaking their heads over these planes.

Never realized how cool the gun placement is on the f5.

T-38, F-5, F-20...This "design" is very effective, cheap to build, fast, maneuverable. Air superiority for many missions out there I bet!
