Wonder if someone can advise if the Exhaust manifolds need to be removed before pulling out the Engine and gearbox as one assembly from the shell OR can the headers be left alone.

Trying to avoid removing those tricky nuts from the headers.

If they do need to come off, does it need any special 13mm tool or you just need to get them off with a lot of patience.

    Thanks

Ask the question in the 360/430 Section.
Several folks there have done engine removals incl recently by 'CCRider66' documented in thread called "Go Big or Go Home"

Tks for the advise all. I spent about 3 hours and stripped the sides off the manifolds and all the connecting pipes for the cooling system, P steering etc.
Was tricky as I thought the Alternator to one side and AC compressor to the other may have to come off. Luckily got access for one tricky nut on each side through the access panel behind the seats and the nuts came off with little hesitation. Now the fun part of hoisting the Engine out tomorrow and then stripping the tanks and pipework for the fuel system. Rebuild of the new one starts Monday.

Does make you wonder how they manage to do a cam belt service with the Engine in. It must be so hard to remove the Alternator and AC Compressor with everything around.

Why you need to remove the whole engine? Doing timing?
You can do timing(replacing timing belt and tensioner) even you dont remove the engine.
I done many times doing timing without removing the engine[emoji6]
