and if u never saw the gold one advertised for sale you clearly do not read 'Sports Car Market' magazine or the 'Ferrari Market Letter'. That car has been available for sale for well over two years

Seeing and reading all these recent posts makes me think I did not do so bad on my trade. If market is saying $70k then I got market.

I don’t agree the commission should be factored in because that is the price the seller is willing to pay for the car. He knows the commission before bidding.
With your example then any investor would not mind what you are charging them to purchase any kind of security and I am sure they factor it in and you charge what? 25-50 basis points? 1 percent??
In This auctions it is 10-12% so the commission does make a difference.

After 27 years of trading markets I have learned that the "market price is the market price". Period. All the BS spin, gut instinct, conjecture, bias, etc is just that. It's all noise. Many people (most in fact) just can't accept that fact.

So a seller pays 10% (knowing that ahead of time of course)…..so the "valuation" of the car is now only $63K?

No but he wouldn’t NOT be a buyer if he wants to buy at 100 and you charge him 110, or he will??

    Haha you are funny
I used to be a financial advisor just like you for 25 years until I realized that it was a waste of my time.
And the calculator should be good for you because
    63,636 x 1.10= 70k wow MAGIC

No wonder u are not a financial advisor anymore......you don't even do 4th grade math correctly :)

    Dude, if the SELLER pays 10% …... 10% of 70K is 7K 70-7 =63

You were doing math based on the BUYER's perspective

    Buy a calculator.

And, most importantly, let's just agree to disagree.

A wise man taught me years ago that "only a fool can fool himself".

Now I know what he means

I was always taking about the buyers perspective (read my posts) if a buyer wants to buy something and his all in budget is 70k then that is the market value of the car, because you would find buyers at that level.
The market value is dictated more by demand than by supply.
I am not an advisor anymore not because I don’t know math, I should if I have two bachelors in finance and economics and a masters in financial analysis (funny I was able to study that if I don’t know 4th grade math)
But because I believe it was a waste of my time to manage other people’s money.
And your “what do you do for a living” was an attempt to diminish my argument because you knew better than me “because of what you do” and that was rude.
Get a chill pill DUDE if we agree to disagree (as you said)there is no need to attack others.
Look at my first post to you “I don’t agree” I never said “you don’t know what you are saying”

Not meaning to be rude, dude. Clearly the $63K net example stated above was from the SELLERS perspective.

and by the way, for every buyer there has to be a seller. So not sure what this means

"The market value is dictated more than demand than by supply".

Commission is a disruption of the market. Anything you charge to a buyer or a seller is a disruption of the market value.
In this case the seller doesn’t have a choice he knows he will get market value minus commission, he could have a reserve price that would be the minimum he is willing to sell (factoring commissions) but he is pretty much at the expense of the bidders.
Demand is what dictates the value here and the bidders know they would pay 10-12% so if you find a car that was sold at auction for 78.4k that same car could be sold privately for that much as well.

So, I buy Microsoft at $100 a share. I pay a $1 commission per share. The Nasdaq will now quote the current price of MSFT to now be $101 ??????

Of course not.....it is still $100.00 Pure and simple

Yes but don’t you agree that 10-12% commission could and would deter buyers??
And also the stock analogy doesn’t work here because you cannot buy Microsoft privately only in a exchange.

Did the color hurt it or was that a fair price? I would have expected more.

Its best that we not waste the time of others on this link/forum.

If you'd like to PM me to further defend your obviously flawed analysis of Econ 101 then please feel free to do so :)
