The issue isn't fossil fuels vs other fuels. The issue, the cause of the climate change, is the number of people on the planet...and the fact that most of them just suck up the oxygen and contribute little or nothing. The world was doing much better at 3.5 billion humans. The world is doing much worse at 7 billion. Luckily nature will probably give us a needed hand at thinning the herd. A physician friend feels we're heading for some wonderful viral black swans and with luck it/they will take out much of the non-productive part of the global population that could vanish tomorrow and never be missed. The old isn't always better than the new and the new isn't always better than the old. But the answer to pollution is not more technology and laws, but rather fewer...much fewer people.

Bloody good idea..... can I give him a list? It’s a lot less expensive than giving a similar list to timebomb

Just make sure we have the fchat virus antidote available please (well, for most of us, there’s a few here on The List too!). Hehe

Can I send you my suggestions for your list as well, Sid?

Absolutely. Guess there may be a few ears burning around here right now eh? Hahahahahaha

If elton was a member here, he’d be well advised to hire someone to taste his lunch from now on hehe

China pollutes a lot... but there are a lot of Chinese too! Each American pollutes more than 2x Chinese and 15x Indian. Also, Chinese have realized they have a problem and are trying to fix it: they are already the country which builds more electric vehicles. Meanwhile, in Amurica, they plan to burn coal again...

It´s wrong than noyhing can´t be done. Have you ever heard of London´s Great Stink or London´s Great Fog? That kind of things shouldn´t happen today because someone took enviromental measures. The world can´t be fixed in one day, but every little helps.

So let someone do something about it, but that doesn’t mean tiny contributors to the problems like Ferrari drivers and F1 racing should be penalised while these environmental protesters expect us to use clean energy, yet all the while moan about nuclear power and expect us to use bloody wind. Unless they are going to round up all obese people, chain them in a line and force feed them baked beans, they will never generate enough wind to power the world..... (but that would be bloody funny to see though, long as you have a gas mask on)

Okay, I think I have the solution. We ban petrol and diesel in the developing countries, and force them to use electric vehicles powered by nuclear power stations, which we build as a test bed for our own new stations that will follow later. The developing countries won’t moan, cos they have transport and most of their travelling is actually productive for work, moving supplies, building their countries, they won’t miss sports cars and lifestyle vehicles becuase they are a pipe dream at the moment, they just need transport.

When we’ve proved beyond doubt that nuclear power is safe and trustworthy (not that we haven’t already, one or two disasters don’t make the hundreds of stations redundant to anyone expect vehement enviro-nutters) then we can roll out the nuclear stations on a massive scale, thus removing coal and gas from the electrical production grid. Let the wind power enthusiasts keep their wind to keep them happy, but now you have a power grid capable of supporting the mass introduction of electric vehicles if that’s what you want, but also, now the world has a lot less carbon in the atmosphere, we can keep our clean petrol vehicles if we like, and it won’t kill any more polar bears nor eskimos! Problem solved, Sid for President!

The point for me is that hybrid cars are FASTER than ICE powered cars. Of course, if you use a 5 litre V12 with unlimited fuel tank capacity it would go faster than the little V6 we have now... but a hybrid 5 litre V12 would be even faster.

Formula 1 has to be at the top of automotive technology. And if the current top of technology are hybrids, then that should be.

I think that if you go around the world giving free nuclear power stations, everyone would be happy. But I doubt that western politicians, who even are reluctant to pay health care for their own people, would be willing to do that.

Also there are alternatives to nuclear power. Solar energy is underused, and commercial nuclear fusion (which is a LOT better than fission) is expected to come in 30 years.

Not really. 3 liter NA V10 times are only starting to fall now, and that's with DRS (a huge help), fatter tyres (a huge help) 14 years of aero development (an enormous help), far wider wings, floor area and so on (an enormous help).

I'm not opposed to sticking a simple hybrid to an NA car. The pre 2014 KERS would do great, just allow for more battery consumption over a lap.

Mmmm... I don´t have the numbers to back it up, but you have to take into consideration that now they´re running on ****ty control tyres, higher drag, different aero limitations, a lot of races per engine and gearbox, higher weight (not all of it related to the hybrid stuff) and most importantly, a very strict fuel consumption limit. They get the same hp using 25% less fuel, and thermal efficiency above 50%: if they were allowed to run with the same fuel consumption than the old engines. they´d be well above 1000 hp.

Great start to the second part of the season today, and we should be celebrating, but we still have to catch and beat donut and the merc cheating crew yet. Ferrari have to look at how they performed today and make sure that they continue in that fashion, we need plenty of wins in the next few races to turn the title over, and Kimi could do with a little luck and pick up a few second places along the way too to keep elton back in the points.

This could go to the wire still this year, the ferrari is fast but not yet the fastest.... proven in the speed traps today, 9 clicks down on the Mercedes. It still takes a driver with skill to get the car home in the lead.

Alonso was actually offered a red bull drive, despite horners outward denials, according to a friend of mine at mclaren, it was big news amongst his engineers, but apparently Alonso didn’t want, and didn’t believe, in Honda anymore, but also he saw the opportunity for Sainz instead as Alonso’s deal was a one year plus option only, and he didn’t want to switch to Honda and have them **** him over, also the max issue with max being team number one would for the first time make him the contracted number two! He’ll make money long term for sainz rather than a swan song year - he wanted in at red bull when they were still challengers but he doesn’t see them being so within the year

Ferrari definately have a car this second half, but there’s still a top speed differential which we are giving away due to our performance in the corners and level of downforce we can generate. I’d like to think we could win most of not all the last few GPS, but our Achilles heel is still the strategies..... hope we sort them out. This weekend, Vettel’s strategy was spot on, but they still managed to basically forget Kimi along the way in qualifying, unforgivable to let him out with too little fuel in the car.... a joke. Poor chap is driving out his skin, he could have locked out row two, maybe even got pole, but for that Q2 error....

Why? The "current top of technology" in regards to roadcars is or will be electric w/ full automation very shortly. F1 can't follow this, or else it will be roborace.
Why not accept that their future paths are incompatible...and racing can exist for its own end

F1 cannot finance itself, so has to rely on the wishes of the investors.
Right now, the main investors are the 4 car makers; they use F1 as a reseach tool, a showcase and a marketing instrument.
F1 will go the way that serves their interests.

There must be a data of carbon foorprint PER HEAD for each country, and I guess Europeans and North Americans are on top of the list of offenders.
Most of our imports come from across the globe, and we still waste resources recklessly.

No, we use our resources and are constantly cleaning up our act with emissions targets and all this recycling ******** they try to force on us. I don’t care if my tv is on standby and has a little light that cost 20pence a year to run.... leave me alone.

The third world and China produce hundreds of times the pollution of any other area, you sort them out, I’ll take you seriously. Until then, I’ll keep throwing my carrier bags in the bin every time, leaving the lights on, leaving the hottub to run 24/7/365 and driving lovely big engined sports cars without using the stupid stop/start ******** tech, making sure to hold the gears as much as I want to accelerate quicker. You can keep your G-Wizz or Nissan Limp, or whatever it is you want the world to drive

Six cylinder pharts sound bad enough, now you want to impose twelve cylinder phart machines on us?
