Another day another Corvette. Zora Duntov on the road with the new for 1971 LS6 Corvette > Image Unavailable, Please Login
This would be the revised ZL1 with different bore/stroke ratio. Displacement was 430 cu. in. but it was still referred to officially as a 427. Several CanAm competitors in period ran all-aluminum big block Chevrolets with 430 cu. in. displacement--and some were much larger.
March 16, 1969 is extremely early for any ZL1/L88 engines to be out in circulation, perhaps the date is incorrect. The Monaco Orange car was built in mid-December 1968 and Roger Judski's car was produced in June 1969. Zora had a few development cars and some motors were used for "field testing" with race teams. I believe that two engines went to Troy Promotions/Tony DeLorenzo for Sebring in March 1969. This precedes the COPO ZL1 program for Camaro as well. The Chevrolet Engineering Build Order No. 19638-69, To provide engines for certification and development was dated 3/22/69.

Bill Jenkins experimented with various bore / stroke combinations for the aluminum 427 as it changed the torque range of the motor among other things. Initially this aluminum big block was the motor for NHRA Pro Stock against the Chrysler Hemi. However Jenkins later tube frame Chevrolet Vega with a small block changed everything. Jenkins quickly scooped up a quarter million dollars in race winnings after his Vega was declared legal by the NHRA... Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Survey shows 710216 as a yellow Top M40 Corvette. Do you have something to confirm that number as being an orange Corvette? The number '215' may have simply been a dealer stock reference number. It seems unlikely a dealer would know the sequence number build for L88 Corvettes. In the Survey list 10 of the L88 M40 equipped Corvettes have been accounted for. Sorry for the delay in answering!

Looks fantastic with blue control arms and triple tail lights to, thank you! Did Kevin restore that Corvette? He certainly had a good reference source for the shape of the hood scoop and underside design details of that hood ...
Not Kevin then but the Corvette seems to be finished to a very high standard. The small details are amazing and especially both sides of the hood. Is that a pack of cigarettes on the console, matches in the ashtray?!!! This Corvette deserves it's own book to cover the history.
Too cool! MCACN '17 ... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
