Explode, you are giving me WAY too much credit if you think that I, one person in a sea of millions of car buyers, can move the valuation on a car!!!
I understand that you bought a testarossa recently . Perhaps you were just feeling about uneasy about your purchase. Maybe not. I really don’t know. But it doesn’t make sense to take your frustrations out on person who is simply quoting prices that have been dictated by the market. Don’t kill the messenger, as they say.
After all, this particular link has to do with testarossa prices. Prices. Not whether the testarossa is a good car not, Global warming, world hunger etc.
I was quoting the transaction price of a recent sale at Mecum. I think that is obviously a fair point to make on this particular link.

And this debate has nothing to do with testarossa prices per say. Absolutely nothing at all. .
As ricmat wisely points out above, it has to do with ALL transactions regardless of whether it is a car, house, motorcycle, boat, helicopter, art, or buying a six pack of Diet Coke.
Guys, at the end of the day we are all automobile enthusiasts. And my suspicion is that the majority of us are probably professionals, otherwise we would not even be able to afford the luxury of even looking at a Ferrari let alone considering buying one. Let’s act like professionals who are fortunate enough to share the same hobby.

Ferralc- Your whole thesis get blown out of the water when you consider the fact that the seller only net 63 grand. 70 grand less 10% auction fee.
The “valuation” on the car is still 70… Not the 63,000 that actually ended up in sellers pocket.
But, hey, while let the facts get in the way of a good story? :)

The valuation in that short period of time would be 70k but the market sales data will show 78.4k
just like buying a car at a dealer’s lot.

Yeah and did you guys see how there was a yellow diablo that was "no reserve" and SOLD for substantially less than what they thought it would go for (something like $100k when they were estimating $140-$170k)? That buyer got a sweet deal!

The buyer who purchased that yellow Diablo stole that car! Good for him.
Yeah, I was completely shocked at the percentage of cars that did not hit reserve.
The biggest shocker by far was the Porsche 550, which is a $4 million car all day long, that only got bid up to 2 million.
Just the wrong set of buyers in that room I guess. That was definitely not the venue to sell a car of that magnitude.

porsche have taken a hit look at the 930 prices still the best of the best exmples of each model still bringing descentprice, if car is in great shape buyers are willing to pony up the ones need work lack of records and origianlity will always command less but to get it to the great example takes alot of $ most of the times

I paid all those but did not consider that part of the purchase price. I think you are putting words into my mouth quoting my "cash is cash" point.

    Ferralc and Parnelli,
You both have good points but I would side with Parnelli on this one. Premiums are simply the cost of convenience to either the buyer or seller depending on the transaction set up.
For homes, it's easy to understand that the seller foregoes a % of the sales price for the home to be marketed by the agent. IMO, agents do little more than that  but that's a discussion for another thread.
For cars at an Auction, it's the buyers privilege for access to the cars on sale. I'm also thinking there's a presumption on the buyers behalf that Auctions provide better value due to a limited audience or implied risk. This is obvious not always the case since we have seen many times how Auctions have pulled better prices than those at dealers and private sales.

Diablo sold for $97k plus 10% buyer's fees. Also, supposedly the car ran off the road and had some body damage. That said, I'm shocked how many non sales there was this year, not to mention some of those bids (I'm sure) are conspired shill bids by dealer buddies, but who am I to make such insinuations...

Throw that car on the block in rm or sothebys back in 2015 and the bids from the speculators would have been north of 200k. Its taken a long time for some of these cars to cone back down to earth. Brokers can only hoarde cars for so long. There is slowly becoming more private seller ads if you look online which is a sign that the market is getting closer to normal status. Go back to 2014 to 2016 and you had a cornered market by dealers and brokers. No private sale cars were to be found. Has anybody ever seen the warehouse at Marshall Goldman? Ill bet thats a sight to behold. Also notice the time capsule testarossa sales and offerings are way down in quantity from 2015. Throughout the decades you would seldom see those on the market.

The 97 Roadster that sold was an abortion with major previous damage:
    Accident reported
    Vehicle ran off road
    Involving front impact
    Left front primarily damaged
    Right front primarily damaged
    Undercarriage primarily damaged
    Left side primarily damaged
    Left rear primarily damaged
    Front primarily damaged
    Right rear primarily damaged
    Right side primarily damaged
    Rear primarily damaged
    Vehicle towed

The 91 that sold, had more oil drip pans underneath it than any other car there.

Sounds like Shamile's old car post accident. I wonder if that dweeb out in UK bought it and is going to hawk it as a clean title car. That must have been one serious accident.

My 97.5 Diablo VT Roadster was heavily impacted on the right side in the center. The front and rear was fine as well as the driver side. Car was sent to England and title washed with clear title.

Yeah, I really do miss my Diablo VT Roadster. It was the perfect blend of old school gated shift and super fast. I hate the modern electronics and paddle shift.

My Diablo never went into a shop in 10 years. My Murcielago Roadster goes in for every little thing as it has to be plugged into the dealership computer. I have spent $42k in 3 years and added 10k miles on a car starting with 8k miles. Hookers and not remembering where you wake up would be cheaper lol.

....and forget about the FGT. I have a F250...not much difference ;) lol
