Hehe, when I read your post, I misread 'Nando' as 'Lando' and was wondering why you were mad at poor Lando all of a sudden
I really couldn't stand Fernando from ~2005 to somewhere around ~2010 (so I know the feeling) then I started to slowly warm to him, and ultimately he become one of my favored characters. I suspect he actually a very 'nice' and loyal guy among friends - but he been around the block in F1 - surrounded by the piranhas - he often figures a good offense in the best defense when in comes to his F1 dealings. If you haven't already, do check out the docu, 'Fernando Alonso: My Last Race for Ferrari.' It's quite a fascinating behind the scenes look into F1 and gives quite and insight into Fernando's character.
That you like it or not, Hamilton has the full package when it comes to F1: he did choose the right team and performed admirably.
Renault's chief Cyril Abiteboul as said he hasn't considered Alonso as an option for his team, he respects him as a driver but he was never an option....this comes after alonso claims that besides Red Bull he had several other offers....sure you had Nando, just not in f.1!!
hahaha, i just saw that one....so, either Alonso is a liar (who would have guessed!!) or every other team bosses in the paddock are!
Well, that seat doesn't look to become available for a number of years, does it? But yes, as for the rest I can't understand the game Fernando is playing in saying that he has had offers from everyone and refused all these... Rgds
More teams Alonso says gave him an offer to drive F1 for them next year — Toleman, Tyrell, Jordan, BRM, Coloni and Super Aguri
I really do not understand his thinking with all these claims. He looks foolish. Just make your decision and move on already.
Since everybody knows everybody in the confine of the paddock, Alonso must have interpreted a casual nod or a cheeky wink as a job offer. Tha guy craves for publicity apparently.
Cyril would be lucky to have signed a driver of Alonso’s ability. He, alongside ricciardo, would be a dream team that had it happened at ferrari we would all be crowing about (except you Pedro, buddy). Renault are a mid field team aiming firmly at the midfield unless their spending trends change to match those they must have used to get Daniel for next year, because they have, in recent times, been reluctant to invest too much in any development, so where they could, and maybe should, be challengers as a works team, they seem set to always be 4th to 8th material
I’m glad my off track antics ended childless........ er indoors would have a field day if I started getting phone calls from grid girls and other drivers girlfriends asking if they can introduce me to some children I’d fathered!
Don't think so...apart from Moretti of course, he would snatch one into the trunk of his Ferrari and take a shower with her!!
I watched an interview of Cyril Abiteboul on the french T.V and he was really adamant that he would never, ever have considered Fernando as a driver for Renault again. He admited his talent as a driver, but said that they were on completly different timings, as Fernando needed a car able to win immediately, something that Renault is unable to provide him, and that would only lead to growing frustration, which is difficult to manage with Fernando. He said also that Fernando got himself in a dead end street because of bad carrer moves. All in all, no doubt whatsoever that he wouldn't even think of hiring him. Rgds
Nobody in his right mind would touch Alonso with a barge pole now. Why invite trouble in your team? The guy thinks he is entitled to the best car in the field and precedence in the team, and then creates havoc if he doesn't get what he wants.
Nelson Piquet toward the end of his F1 career was in a similar position. As I recall he agreed to drive for Benetton for a zero retainer and was paid purely for points(finishes). He won three races that season. If Alonso had true passion he would do something similar and damn the compensation. He has enough money to last the rest of his life.
You are right, after leaving Williams, the 2 lacklustre years at Lotus almost destroyed Piquet's credibility as a driver,. He signed a "performance related" contract at Benetton where he recovered some form and disn't disgrace himself. I don't think Alonso would ever have proposed his services for free like Nelson did. This is a different era, and I Wonder which team would even contemplate such an arrangement. Well, probably Williams would now ...
