If Stroll can pick up some points that would be ok i guess. If he can keep that thing on track on the twisty bits he might even make top 6,he can be capable of a very good first lap.

Exactly. If practically any drivers dad could get them a seat in F1 they would take it, period. I kind of feel sorry for him because he will be the poster child for poor little rich kid. Any time he does something good it will be because his daddy bought him a seat. If he starts getting consistently good results with a new team, I suppose that stigma could go away though.

Exactly, as racing fans, we are all a bit secretly jealous that Strool can afford to indulge in his hobby.
Personally, I never aimed at being a racing driver, but I have dreamt of managing my own private team, like Rob Walker did, or Walter Wolf, or Teddy Yip, even Lance Reventlow
    Quite unrealistic, I know ...

Good for Lance. The only question is how far back he will fall......

Plenty of rich kids with talent we are not jealous of, however.

I say I'd do the same but I also (rightly, in my opinion) criticize him. If he had the talent I wouldn't be so critical.

I'd like to run a team but rather race myself. Due to height (ignoring talent) I'd never be able to race single seaters. GT3 maybe.

I always found that a career in sport is too short-lived, to dedicate everything to it.
I would have prefered managing a racing team.

I am sceptic of the Kimi/Vettel arrangement. I just think for efficiency Vettel will win and the team will engineer a swap if needed. Its so close with LH.

I think that if Kimi leads at the start, he will stay there.

I don't expect Arrivabene to give him the order to let Vettel pass.

Or maybe his next contract depends on how compliant he is?

Even if Kimi leads till the pitstops, Ferrari will engineer the Vettel win. I much prefer Kimi to win, obviously....but Ferrari need to make that sacrifice. Sadly. That said if they do it and not extend his contract that's utterly shameful. But I think they will (on both).

I wouldn't (couldn't) do it as a career (height and weight go hand in hand), so I always looked at it as a amateur thing to get into. Personal enjoyment.

Ferrari would not hesitate to switch them if needed. Not nice but that's the bottom line. And they know Kimi will obey.

If he survives Turn 1 he should be OK serving as a moving chicane. If he keeps his nose clean he has a reasonable chance of finishing in the points.

Who decides what/when/where is Papa Stroll, I am 100% sure. Lance has no word.

As much as I am not a Lance's fan, I have to say, he did not seem to be an arrogant kid. His father on the other hand is a tremendous prick. Papa Stroll lobbied to put Lance in the Ferrari Academy, then decided to move him to Williams, and then when his patience was over he started to look around for an alternative and the Force India deal came along.

It's funny that Jos Verstappen also strictly dictated every step that Max would do... But then there is a slight gap of talent between these two kids... ;)

Hülkenberg himself said once that his height has influenced not getting a contract in the past and apparently Ocon don't fit Mclaren's cockpit. Formula racing and karting are definitely not a sport for tall guys. Ideal height is max 1,75m and below 70 kg.

The tallest successful driver I know, other than Justin Wilson (RIP), is Simas Juodvirsis from Lithuania, he was 1,94 m (~6 ft 4) or something and became european champion in the shifter karts in 2012. It was unbelievable how he could fit in the kart and still be competitive. A shame that he didn't have sponsorship to move on.

This is why I Wonder if Force India is safe in his hands ( and his partners).
Soon or later, they will realise that with Lance onboard, the team won't progress much.
    What will happen then?
Will they lose interest like Tony Fernandez did with Caterham and starve the team of funds until it goes bankrupt?
Will they sack Lance and start recruiting a proper driver?
This syndicate is a bunch of businessmen whose principal interest isn't motor racing.
Vijay Mallya may have been a bit of a crook, but he looked after his team..

I was still young when Justin Wilson came to F1 and they noted his height. It gave me some false hope about any possibilities (obviously being 12 years old at the time I was thinking rather optimistically, lol).

You should see me in a kart. Genuinely can't see most of whats in front of me due to my knees being in the way :p:p:p
Indeed....Red Bull picked up Jos' bills for F3. Jos obviously wasn't short of money but he couldn't afford beyond Karting, where luckily they found enough sponsors to keep going also. Job jobbed for Red Bull, paid off so far!

Not quite - Lawrence Stroll is a motorsport enthusiast from way back, long before Lance got into racing. He didn't buy classic Ferraris for Lance's benefit; he didn't buy Mont Tremblant race track for Lance's benefit

    Stroll Sr.'s collection:
Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Scaglietti Spyder (1957 )
    512 M Sunoco
    – 512 BB LM
    – 288 GTO
    – 412 P

Agreed - even if the other consortium investors aren't car guys, they are comfortable investing with Stroll because they've made many millions piggybacking on his coat tails!

All this goes back to my earlier comments, I think anyone in his shoes would've done the same (lances), right up until buying an F1 team in a vain effort to keep racing. It's not the car that's the problem...it's the driver. Their money in the end.

Personally I'd have bowed out and focused on prototypes (or even Indycar) and spend the rest of my time at my private ****ing race track racing any of those amazing cars available....

We all know that F1 nowadays is 90%+ all about the car .

So we can expect Lance to eventually be within .2/.3 of whoever his new team mate will be,although that may take some time in a new machine.

He might even on occasion out qualify ,or even finish ahead of the other driver.

Let's not forget this is only his 2nd year in F1,age 19.
