It just bugs me to see big plastic headlights that eat up like 40% of the beautiful fender. It doesn’t seem necessary...and less plastic the better to my eyes. Different tastes, all good, gents!
+1 To my knowledge, there are no homely Ferraris (save perhaps the 400i, the 308 GTC4, and maybe the 456). They're all visually enticing and appealing to varying degrees- some are 'cool' looking (Testarossa), 'aggressive' (F50, 430 to a lesser extent), 'handsome' (550/575), 'timeless' (Dino), 'iconic' (F40, 328), etc. I always think of my 360 as 'pretty'. I imagine that's probably an unusual adjective to use in describing anything that's so closely related to masculinity (as the car culture is overwhelmingly male) but that's just how I see it. In fact, it's the quality that most attracted me to the car. I think my 458 Spider is many things visually - aggressive (from certain angles),cool, interesting, etc., but I think that, all things considered, the 360's looks are far more appealing. Mike
Interesting, your take on the 456. I think the 360 is the prettiest mid V8, and I think the 456M is the prettiest V12 2+2. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Aaaarrrrgghhhhhhh .....MY EYES !!!! MY EYES !!!! Just kidding man....sorry, I just fine nothing appealing about that car- no offense. The entire back 40% looks like exactly zero thought went into sculpting it- it's just kind of 'blah'. Again, no offense intended. Mike
I think the 550 maranello has aged beautifully, the overall shape of the car still leaves me breathless.
...and not to derail the thread, but I think the McLaren 12c has aged better in less time than any car I've ever seen, and I think the F12 is a close second. Mike
I am trading it in now on my new 812 in a few weeks so not yet, i dont know if they raised asking prices or what but the prices seem to be up over the last few months, really overrated car, wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Maintenance costs are on a level that makes whatever ferrari you own seem like a toyota, I fully understand now why they never went up in price.
Mine is coming soon, rossa corsa, but that silver with red interior in that pic is from the video doug demuro just posted on youtube is an incredible spec, I wish that's what I had gone with.
Must say 360 has aged very well. Didnt even like 360 when it was new, now I owe one and love it! Just an amazing design and the very first Ferrari of the modern era Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is something interesting about the 348. When you see it in person it is enormously sexy, then you hold your camera up and look at it in the lcd and what the.. where did the sexy car go? You lower the camera and use your eyes and there it is. BB boxers for example look EXACTLY in person like they do in pics and so does a 360. Testarosa's too but actually but you have to be behind one to really get the majesty of the width though. Photos do not capture a 348, so in photos maybe it is not ageing well but in person.... few look as good, to me at least. I disagree it has not aged well.
I think the F50 has aged well, I would never expect that car to come out in 1995, Looks like something that wouldve came out in the early 2000's. And it did not look like any other mid 90's ferraris.
The Challenge Stradale ages well on me. The 355 Berlinetta and Spider are still beautiful. The 328 caps off the end of a Magnum PI era and is worth keeping. Even if I can't get the damn AC to work.
Aged well: 400 512bb 365 gtc/4 aged not well: 430 599 Always bad (for a Ferrari): Mondial (original, not the 3.2 or t) Enzo 612 Unsure: 348 (gtc and ss great, original with black bottom and those horrible wheels not so much) 308gt/4 (looks like an early countach mated with a 308 and this got some of the good and some of the bad of each) Always good: Pretty much everything else - standouts being the 250 series, 275, Daytona and 355 for me. The 430 and 599 I liked both (a lot) when they came out, but the 430 looks overwrought to me and the front bumper looks bad now. The 599 looks like a porker. The 400, 512 and 365 gtc/4 all looked like the homely sister to some of the other cars when I was younger, but I really like them now, especially the 512. I was a huge Testarossa fan and thought the 512 looked out of date, but I'd take a 512 over a TR (but not a 512TR or M, that'd be tougher to call). I don't think the Testarossa has aged poorly, I still love it, just the 512 has aged really well. The 430/599/612/Enzo could just be at that age where they look really dated and will come good later, but I never really liked the 612 or Enzo so don't think they will. The 430 and 599 could, but in particular the 599 just looks bloated compared to the 550/575 that immediately preceded it and the f12 that superseded it.
Disagree on the last part, if you line up a 512M, 355 and F50 (especially with hardtop) together, they all look fairly closely related. The f50 just looks like the wildest of the 3.
That same camera phenomenon is common with the Mondial as well. It can actually look amazing in photographs but you have to get the proper angle. Not like a 250 series car where nearly every angle is fantastic. In real life it's a whole different ballgame. Very low and cool looking. I think that's a big part of the issue. With the Mondial, and many modern Ferrari's that followed, getting the low center of gravity and the feeling that inspires to register in a photo is tough. Some cars, like the 365/512 BB...register as low and aggressive even if you shoot them inside a paper bag. Other cars, you have to be more mindful of how you shoot them.
I'm a very late millennial, and one of the first exotic cars I ever remember seeing in person was a red F430 with the five twin-spoke wheels and a gated manual parked at the grocery store. Ever since then, the F430 has been one of my all-time favorite Ferraris, and I think it looks timeless. I love the nostrils, and the proportions are just perfect. My dream garage would include a gated Rosso Corsa F430 with the twin-spoke wheels, TDF blue 550 Maranello, and red F40 with the LM wheels. Those are the three Ferraris that have aged best imo. I also really like the F355 and 599.
