With respect to F1, the fans burn more fuel coming to and going from the races than all of the F1 cars combined.

Very true, and maybe the governments should think at reducing public attendance to sporting events, concerts, and such like.
After all, we have perfect video links now and we can Watch all these from home without increasing our carbon footprint..

Videos does nothing to show Schumi's raw talent. Seeing him get all crossed up in a corner yet keeping his foot in it an bringing the car back into control was second to none. I have a photo that I took of him in Montreal going thru turn 9 yet he is looking towards the hairpin, most of the drivers were concentrating on not tagging the wall on the exit of turn 9.

Ferrari is probably the only manufacturer currently in F1 that isn't trying to save the world from itself by selling low emission vehicles.

Good. Ferrari and other proper supercar manufacturers know that there isn’t enough of their cars on the planet to contribute in any definitive way to the problem, so they sensibly haven’t been quick to dive into the nonsense. They’ll wait until (a) the technology actually allows them to build a desirable car and (b) they are forced too.

If anyone here is daft enough to think changing some cars for electric will save the world, then I want some of what they are smoking. The power stations run on fossil fuels because the enviro-nutters that want electric cars DONT want lovely clean nuclear power, and heavy industry pumps more **** in the atmosphere every minute than all the vehicles of land, sea and air do in a year.

We should face facts, humans DESTROY everything they touch, the environment is just the last to fall for us to notice. We’ve already managed to wipe out half the animal species that once shared our planet, and decimated rain forests everywhere. Do you think we deserve to extend our time here? Seeing the primitive scum in places like China where they still bait bears, eat dogs, kill tigers and other endangered animals, while we put up with that without wiping them off the face of the earth, then as far as I’m concerned the world can go to hell in a handbasket before I give a **** about global warming.

Your average westerner isn’t going to buy electric cars unless, on the whole, they are faster, easier to run, reliable and look cool - I’ve never seen an electric car that fits all of those criteria. The other thing is the cost - buy a 3-series BMW at £40000 ($50000) or a bland looking tesla for £100000 ($120000) for the base model? Some of us here are spoilt, driving the metal we do, the average Joe doesn’t as much chose his car, as chose the monthly payment that won’t bankrupt him alongside his mortgage, bills, credit card debts etc.

The day BMW, or Ford, or any of the mainstream popular car makers actually build good looking, fast, reliable, and AFFORDABLE cars, then people will consider them. While they are doing that though, they better also work out what happens to the batteries after they wear out, and the cost of replacement, as otherwise they are building the scrap cars of the future, and a dead battery mountain in some far away previous paradise!

I agree, videos never show the full talent..... but it awakens memories of watching back then when every race, every qualifying, well, even every practice session, F1 and Ferrari in particular gave me butterflies waiting for the green lights. Through from Senna until the start of the current turbo era, in my house, the phones went off for just one thing - F1. If I wasn’t at the race, then Tv on, sound system to max, curtains drawn and no one speaks (and no request gets answered unless someone is actually dying).... I’d watch in awe every session I could, listen to the radio on sessions that weren’t available, and my link to the telemetry at the tracks was golden. During the schumi era, I got so good at reading the information that I used to predict qualifying laps for buddies and won a lot of money from them.

The race itself, I’d almost give myself a heart attack as I waited on the lights going out, and my faith in Senna, and later in Michael, was absolute. Even if we were behind I had a belief that we could win, and mostly, we did! I hated Hill, despised Prost, and took the piss out of Jacques with his never ending supply of goofy glasses. Michael saw off all contenders, and was head and shoulders over even the best of the rest.

Michaels retirement hit me hard, I was at Monza when it happened, and later, I was at the finali Mondiale with ferrari and saw the team coming apart inside itself as they took in the news.

2007 thru to 2013, an edge had gone, but I still got excited watching Kimi and Massa carry the torch, and then Alonso, but our cars were getting worse and worse each year, we were lacking the input of testing as it was reduced, and of Michael in particular. His input to the cars from 1996 thru 2006 was immense, we talk about it, but ask Rory Byrne, or Ross Brawn, they will tell you, his input was massive on his cars. When we talk about drivers helping with development today, none are as intense as schumi was - they couldn’t be anyway with the rules, but even if the rules were different I don’t think anyone would be close, maybe Vettel with his work ethic, and Kimi has a natural talent for development but not the intensity.

The turbo era, with its pre-set winners already in place from race one 2013 until this year (and with Ferrari seemingly unable to plan a single race out properly, likely this year too), the sport lost a massive amount of appeal, and continued to lose it more and more. From going to races every season, it dropped to one, and then to none at all, and I have no interest in going to any for the foreseeable future.

The world has its problems, but all of a sudden, F1 is supposed to care. Electric cars, no smoking, dont drink, go to the gym, don’t appreciate female models............ FFS it’s supposed to be racing, not a lesson in good manners, etiquette or how to live a life.

Don’t use too much fuel, save the planet, save money, don’t buy a ferrari, buy a Nissan Limp, don’t go faster than the speed limit in case theres a freak accident. Buy an electric car - it will be cumbersome, awful in the corners, look bland, drive blander, likely have a range of double digits if you drive it quickly, but at least you won’t burn evil petrol. The ban on grid girls telling us we are not supposed to appreciate the female form, no tobacco advertising because apparently despite being legal to buy and pay tax on we shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy our vice in peace, advertise booze however and wherever you like, but please don’t let anyone think it’s fun, tastes nice or makes you more sociable at parties, make sure everyone knows it can kill, and somewhere in the world a drunk driver will have an accident. Jesus Christ, really? Can’t we all be left to enjoy our lives, and when it comes to racing, to have to put up with lessons in how to live?

Schumi, and those that raced around him, enjoyed I think the golden era of formula one, when it actually WAS the pinnacle of motorsport, and it reflected the attitudes and enjoyment of racing fans everywhere. Once the politics took hold in the late 2000’s, having been ably bounced around by Bernie for so long, the sport has been buried deeper and deeper in red tape, ultimately having to do deals with Mercedes to run engines that they prefer, not fans prefer, and guaranteeing boring races for a long period. Now that ferrari finally seems to have a car that can compete most places, out management seem to have forgotten how to plan a race strategy, and how to win, thus maintaining Liberty and the FIAs obligations to Mercedes to guarantee their dominance until 2021, at least until ferrari hire someone that can shake them out of their stupor. I’m beginning to wonder if the FIA doesn’t visit ferrari after a successful qualifying and remind them that Mercedes are chalked up for the win so DONT, or giving the go ahead to allow the odd win to generate a fake enthusiasm for the sport from race fans convinced this will be the year someone else wins

Man, please, STOP!! Stop deferring your resposability to Chinese or whoever. I don´t care what others do. Just because Americans spend in weapons more than the next 20 countries together while their public health system sucks doesn´t mean that I want to live in a militarized country. I don´t care, it´s their problem. I have to do what I feel I have to do, and I hope that others follow my example.

BTW, in case you didn´t know, in China they just shoot at you if you hunt a panda bear.
BTW part II: dogs are eaten in many countries, and are not an endangered species, so eating or not eating them is just a cultural thing. Cows can be quite sociable too if you try, and probably you still eat them anyway.

They won’t follow your example, so I wouldn’t bother if I were you.

The world is buggered up, and there’s nothing anyone is going to do to stop it. I won’t be buying a tesla just yet (until they hit 0-60 in 1.5 and play V12 Ferrari engine noises loudly inside and OUTSIDE while it does it)

I recommend that you educate yourself a bit more. There is a big difference between being a tree hugger and being blind. Humanity has come a long way to get where we are. Not so long ago they sprayed children with DDT, smoking was recomended by medical magazines and the sewers dropped **** in the beaches. If no one bothered, you probably wouldn´t be alive now: people were old already at 50.

Do what you want, but at least you should be grateful to those who bothered before you.

Case in point then. We make far too much cheap crap these days. Why? Because everyone wants everything for the lowest possible price. They don’t realise the cost to the planet.

Here’s an example. I have some nail clippers, had them thirty years, they are in perfect condition despite their age. A little while ago, I actually bought some, they weren’t (I thought) cheap, but they were a good size and I for some
Reason decided I wanted them. They are kept in the same place alongside my old ones, yet they are already getting rusty. The reason - cheap composite metals in making them so they are cheap. I threw them away this morning, into landfill. If I didn’t have my old ones, I’d have to buy again. That makes 30 potential replacements over the years, because the look
Of products these days is good, but the form is total crap. It generates more and more waste, and the resources to make them kills the environment.

Humans will always find a way to waste resources and **** up the planet. I won’t make a difference, nor will you, it’s a fact

I wont´. Neither you. But if you, me and a few thousands more try, then we´ll make a difference.

How do you think that people got things done in the past? A peasant can´t cut a king´s head, but a furious mob can.

There is no furious mob in the western world...... English people are far too lazy they wouldn’t bend over to pick up a £10 note, let alone make an effort to do something for someone else. It’s not going to happen mate, just fuel up the fezza and burn some petrol! Screw environmentalists....... maybe get a nice f650 and roll some coal!

I prefer to enjoy my life, making the most of everything available to me...... screw the future, I’m not going to be there and I can’t make a difference to it. They won’t let me go hunting poachers in Africa that kill elephants and tigers, and they won’t let me wipe out the dog catchers of China that eat dogs, hence, I ain’t gonna help their air quality, hopefully the ****ers choke instead. They want to make all the cheap crap and treat their workers like ****, get on with it and keep on adding to their smog.

By the way, I also love to smoke, enjoy the odd flutter in Vegas at the tables, have spent more money on women than I have on houses in my life, and proudly can boast the first button I hit in the Range Rover and any other car is the stop/start off switch, then the gear selector to sport every single drive so I get maximum power all of the time

I dare em to try and eat my dogs. Firstly, my dogs would **** em up real good anyway, being Akitas, but assuming the scumbags managed to subdue the dogs, I’d be busy slicing and dicing the scumbags and seeing how they enjoy being lunch for the dogs when I’ve finished them off

I heard how the American food industry processes chicken in factories.
To kill the bacteria, they apparently clean the meat by washing them it a high pressure solution containing bleach.
Obviously they rince the carcasses with water later.
But there are traces of bleach left in the flesh.
This process is recognised toxic by our medical institutions and the import of such poultry has been banned in Europe.
Trump complained because we wouldn't buy that foul stuff, and called us protectionist!!!
Well, good luck with that !!!!!

When Brexit kicks in and Europe starts playing stupid games with their exports to us, we’ll be begging Mr Trump for his help and generosity..... don’t be so quick to diss the man. He’s busy making America great again, and he could be instrumental in helping get the ‘Great’ back in Britain yet

Talking about European-American commercial relationships, pollution and fried chicken: back in the 60s some European countries taxed the import of American chicken to protect the local producers. In retaliation, Americans taxed some European products, among others industrial vehicles: the VW vans were selling well, so Detroit lobbied to get them taxed. As a consecuence, only the passenger VWs got popular between the hippies...

Flashforward 40 years and Ford decided that it would be a good idea to sell in America the small vans they produce in Europe. As those are still taxed, they build them as passenger vehicles, with rear seats, carpets, windows, etc... then send them to US where they remove the rear seats, carpets, replace the glass windows with metal panels, etc... to convert them into cargo vans. The brand new seats, windows, etc... go straight to the trash bin.

Yes, we´re living in a stupid world.

Don’t worry, the entire British parliament is proving themselves incapable of organising a piss up in a brewery at the moment. Even if trump dances a thin line between genius and nutcase, he is giving America a massive economic boost.... a businessman running the biggest business in the world - I’m a massive fan to be fair
