Populist? WTF is populist? She gets votes because the Libs have lost a great deal of their core base by trying to appease leftist minority groups. The libs need to move further to the right and give the voters a clear choice. Katter, Bernardi and Hanson voters will then largely come back. And then the Senate needs to be disbanded - I personally hated Paul Keating, but "unrepresentative swill" pretty much is right on.

I’ve only just caught up on all these posts. Patrick is spot on - the Libs lost the plot when they decided to try to appeal to people who will never, ever vote for them anyway. Turnbull is and always was a lefty. And genuine conservatives couldn’t stand him, hence the scattering of the right wing vote. Hell, even I supported Bernardi’s party briefly (even though I can’t stand religion) mainly because I was so pissed off with where Turnbull was taking the Libs. Basically, they’re ****ed now no matter what - Shorten will be the next PM and it will be a disaster for this country - but when the Libs try to work out why, they need look no further than overthrowing a genuine conservative with a card carrying left wing wanker.
