I haven't played the race card, merely asked whether it's lurking somewhere in the deck...

I also don't understand how people can hate someone so much that they have never met. Hamilton is not affecting others by how he dress or acts.

It was recently addressed that unless you have proof of racist comments or remarks being hurled around then there is no reason for (in your own words) poking the gorilla.

You're right - we should wait for an invite to dinner at his home. In the meantime, we shouldn't say anything until we meet.

    Get a grip.

    Best,

If so, I missed it. Can you please direct me to the relevant post(s) on that subject? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I can't remember but it was definitely brought up. Please contact them directly if your search ability is as bad as mine lol - personally don't want to bother them on something they had already addressed.

    Best,

TBH I'm not sure but pure guess that it was in another thread - I tried a search but my feeble attempts couldn't find anything - as Stavura mentioned there definitely was a Mod involved which I can remember clearly. Perhaps William remembers ?

I appreciate your input and insights. Lewis is a great driver and more people on F-Chat are realizing that. This thread will someday become null and void as more people can appreciate that the guy can deliver (and he has definitely grown as a driver). There are many elements to this ongoing grudge match, but none of them are merited or reasonable.

I'm guessing you were referring to this from moderator dm_n_stuff:

There have been a few recent posts hinting at members here being racists, or making racist comments. From this point forward, I'm going to keep a special eye out for this. We all know racism when we see it, even if it is, like porn, sometimes difficult to define. I'm not seeing it here, at least not overtly. Subtle undercurrents? Sometimes, maybe, sort of. Nothing that I see that's clear cut.

So, here's my guidance on posting that someone here IS racist or is posting racially insensitive material. Put up or shut up. If you can point me to a post, or posts, where a member has left a racist remark, I'll handle it, and it'll be swift and severe. If you can't point me to a post or posts, then don't put a statement here that a member is a racist. Clear? If you post a false accusation, I'm gonna boot your ass out of the thread, and/or out of the forum for a good long time. Is there any confusion about Fchat's position on this? If you're still confused, shoot me a pm and I'll do what I can to clarify that for you.

And if you see a racist post, hit the report button and leave the rest to me. If you make an post here accusing someone of being a racist, link it to the racist post IN YOUR POST. Don't make me dig for it, I'm not gonna try, and you'll get the boot. OK? Now, back to your regularly scheduled Hamilton bashing.

    And this, also from dm_n_stuff:

Users may not discuss political or religious topics (short form P&R) on any public forums on FerrariChat. Discussions of race/racism, gender equality, etc, falls under the "political" category. We do have rules about "racist" comments in the forums and posts that are considered "racist" may be reported to the moderators by using the "Report" button on each post. Andrew has been the most public face, but there are several more than him and we all agree Andrew is even-handed and unbiased, without regard to the drivers (including their race) or the Ferrari/non-Ferrari teams.

Whichever moderator takes the report will judge whether the reported post is likely "racist" or not. Moderators will also accept reports on whether a user publicly calling others "racist" is being used as a personal attack or not. Either or both may be true, but the site will act to facilitate discussion, not enforce any particular standard of social justice. As such philosophical discussions about what is or is not "racist" or where the line should be drawn falls under the P&R restriction and is not permitted in THIS forum. Discuss this in the subscribed section P&R forum or contact the mods by private conversation if you are so motivated. Otherwise simply report your concern and move on.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm not pointing the finger at any individuals, but rather questioning the motivation behind the extreme personal animus evident in some posts, which admittedly could be due to factors other than racism. In any case, if the forum rules mean the topic of racism itself can only be discussed in P&R, then fair enough. If a couple of recent temporary bans are any indication, the moderators seem to be doing a pretty good job of policing things around here...

Thank you thank you thank you! I’m so sick of the race card I could @&&#$% puke.
They can take that crap to their next democrat meeting. I come here to talk about F1 and escape from all of that bs we are bombarded with daily elsewhere.

Whilst I never met him personally, I do have a few friends who have met him, in work and private situations. One of them is a pilot who doesn't really care about F1, so had no real opinion on Hamilton, but he was treated like ****. Scherzinger apologized to him after the flight. My business partner lived in the building next to him so bumped into him from time to time. Same opinion: Arrogant **** (most other F1 drivers on the other hand are down to earth and some are friends even). Fun fact: Lewis not being well liked by other F1 drivers is not just an internet rumour.

That said, another friends' business partner (never met him) had cancer and he got a letter from Lewis. So there's that.

Anyhow, 99% of people that criticize (or adore, I guess) him have not and will never meet him. People see what they see. Some love him and he can do no wrong, others hate him, and he can do no right. What connects the two? Seemingly Lewis' persona.

For me, when he came to F1 the only thing was that he drove for Mclaren (''the enemy''). This isn't always an issue, Hakkinen, DC, Kimi all did and I was fans of them, even at the wrong team. F1 was on ITV or BBC at the time, and I quickly got annoyed that it became LewisTV. It was only Hamilton, Hamilton, Hamilton. The only one uttering other drivers names was Brundle...After Hamilton dumped his dad he became an arrogant ****. I think his dad was keeping him under control as much as possible and he was likeable, really. But dad was dumped and Hamilton became more arrogant each weekend.

I take the piss out of him because he makes it easy, and it's not illegal.

I've always supported drivers whose persona I like. I was never a fan of Senna, for example. Nor Prost, really.

Personally I doubt anyone here “hates” Hamilton. This is sports and he’s simply a guy some people choose as their “villain” to root against. It’s like saying I hate the Atlanta falcons.

Now that's more like it – specifics that make for an interesting discussion, and a tone that makes for a reasonable one... Thank you, Bas.

I agree, Lewis' behaviour seemed to take a turn for the worse after he sacked his dad (and a couple of other good guys working for him). I believe he resumed being managed by Anthony a few years ago, but am not certain. I had huge admiration for Senna as a towering talent but not as a person; I guess it's possible to see Lewis the same way. I always favoured the Aussies such as Jones and Webber (I worked with both), and root for Ricciardo among the current crop. I must say my best driver friends have been ones who fell a step or two short of making it to F1. They had the speed but lacked some other factors among the dozens needed to get to the top.

Nah. I think Lewis has remained a remarkably consistent character throughout his F1 career. People were hating him long before his split with his father as manager back in 2010. It's makes a nice convenient, narrative 'moment' for his detractors though.

It would be interesting to know how many follow him BECAUSE he is black!
And if any of them says something against Seb, Rosberg or Schumacher, would one call them racists as well? Because you might not know, but racism is not exclusive to white people and certainly not exclusive against black people!
And I have to be allowed to think one is an *******, no matter what skin colour or religion he has, just because of his personality without having to defend myself against such baseless insinuations!

You know what the biggest Ironie in this post is?
It is liked by someone who said himself he is black as well, who never met Seb in Person but never stops calling him names. Seriously, one can not make this **** up even if one tries hard [emoji23]

Several posts ago, I accepted that the consideration of racism and other P&R topics in this thread is limited to the reporting of inappropriate posts, and thanked Bas Jaski and Stavura for bringing the moderators' detailed policy to my attention. Perhaps you missed that.

I still find some of the violent imagery and language deployed in criticising Hamilton disturbing and wonder what lies behind it. If you think you have been personally targeted, that is your misperception.
