I think for a collector it would hurt value since it was added after production and it’s basically 3x more then the factory optioned lift which is about $4700.

If I understand it correctly, you’re removing it in order to retain original condition?

Hurt value- as in not getting back the full price of the lift, correct? But adding a lift, wouldn’t ‘detract’ from the value.. is my assumption. (Especially since it’s a factory part)

You could just go without the lift, scrape every now and then, and the repaint the bottom if you ever sell.

Some of the most valuable cars in the world have actually be totaled. Scrapes on the bottom of the bumper are meaningless imo.

Also, all you need to do is make one mistake with the lift before you negate it. Forget to put it up once, misjudge something once, and then you might as well not have had it at all.

It is quite easy to remember to use the lift because every time I approach something I might scrape on I think “wow, I hope I don’t scrape” and it triggers me hitting the switch <g>. Its not the minor scratches I am worried about, it’s the permanent damage to the front. I use the lift all the time but to be fair I need to disclose that my Speciale was lowered an inch or so at the dealer as well so it really does come in handy.

My Speciale is lowered on Novitec springs, has the OEM lift from the factory and I rarely use it. The front overhang on these cars is very very manageable if you approach inclines from an angle. On the other hand, my Huracan and Aventadors scraped everywhere. I couldn’t get out of downtown San Diego without using it 2-3 times on a lowered Huracan.

Agree with this, my HP and MurcieSV I always have to use the lift.
My 16M is lowered, does not have a lift, and never scrape. Just take the right angles on inclines.

I second that. My Speciale does not have the lift and it and has not been an issue. No scrapes at all so far (2 years of ownership). For me, the lift is not a must have option. Please note that my car is not lowered, I am sure that plays a part in all this.

All this talk about lifts on the 458 Speciale. I ran the Ferrari Tribute to the Mille Miglia twice in my 458 without a lift and the car is just fine.

I was concerned with not having a Lyft on my speciality, and installed the skid plates. So far I haven’t had the need to even rely on the skid plates as I’ve been a lot more careful and planning ahead as to where and how I would get into driveways. Agree with the difference in Lambo‘s and this car as the front is better designed for driveways taken at an angle.

Did you drill the skid plates into the bottom of the bumper?

I had it installed by the dealer and I do think that they drilled them in. I was told that the gluing them on actually causes more damage and the Bear more apt to be knocked off in case of scraping.

Just for kicks I've been perusing Speciale ads.
Interesting that preowned cars with miles on them still command a price premium over a new 488GTB....and many 488 Spiders.
    Speaks well for the Speciale.
If I had the garage space I'd be tempted to pick up a second Speciale in a completely different spec from my current one.

Even though Speciale is a completely different animal I have a feeling when Pista comes out they will depreciate a little bit more and that will dip below MSRP, but I am sure that that they will rebound and will be a good investment in 15 to 20 years, most likely doubling in price.

That could be the case but I believe that the very high price of Pista can drive Speciale prices up from the beginning. In my opinion, most buyers will found difficult to justify a significant price jump. It will be interesting to see what happens when buyers do a cost / benefit analysis between the two.

With the Pista averaging 450K new, that is a 100K difference right off from most Speciale selling prices. Don't see the difference increasing all that much. Especially since Pistas will be 500K + on the aftermarket for awhile.

IMO Speciale prices hover around 350K for the next couple of years then begin their inexorable move toward 1 million over the next 10 -12 years.

The $1mil mark is interesting speculation at best. I have been waiting for my CGT to hit 1 mill, and it has been 13 years and still hasn’t. It will take a long long time...closer to 20+ years.

And the CGT is far more worthy at $1M.

Uh, NO. And yes I have owned both of them. The CGT doesn't even come close to the Special in my opinion. Of course they are totally different animals so it is in what you like in a car.

I personally never found any car Porsche made to be all that endearing. But thats just me.

CGT is an incredible analog, raw, accident inducing icon to be.
Speciale is obv fine also and will appreciate some day.
I'll easily take the CGT to appreciate LT over Speciale as a %.

CGT looks pedestrian when compared to the Speciale...have heard/read horrible stories as well on how the CGT handles at speed. Not worth arguing but just my opinion.
