So, I’m the third generation owner of my grandfather’s 1978 308 GTS. Today I found a box of pretty cool memorabilia from it’s and my grandfather’s past. Some maintenance records (original mission), show tags and awards, parts book, the tool kits, and the owners manual. It was a cool find and I figured I’d share my excitement with a few others that may think it’s a cool find, unlike my wife haha.

Fantastic find. If your wife does not find it exciting tell her that those items are worth $3-5K in the collector world. That should get her attention.

Haha that’s what I told he! But her response was, so those items cover your first major maintenance? I had to just roll my eyes at her

That’s so cool! This year I got my parents 1978 308GTS that they had bought new. They sold it in 1980 or so.....Then Dad hunted it down, bought it back a few years ago, put a bunch of $ in it and gave it to me. Yesterday I got to take out the oil pressure sending unit.....What an ordeal! Have fun, buy tools, and read read read everything so you can do some maintenance yourself. These cars are notoriously quirky!

    Have fun!

That's great! If I left my 328 to my kids/nieces/nephews, they would sell it before the engine cooled from driving it from our house to any of their respective homes. Might be cool to use it in the manner of the movie "Vanishing Point." ;)

That’s a really cool story! My father wanted to sell at one point but I talked him out of it. Enjoy it!

That’s a bummer! You should enjoy the hell out of it I hope my daughter loves the car as much as I do when she grows up.

That is a great story and great finding the original toolkit and owners manual. It always amazes me how these items become separated from the car in the first place. You see cars being advertised for sale highlighting the fact that the toolkit and owners manual/pouch are still with the car. Seems like such a basic thing that is advertised as something special.

I'd say when the cars were new, it wasn't that important. I can see the owners manual being taken into the house to read through, being left there, being put in packing boxes when you move, and... it's now separated from the car, and you can't find it. I have a feeling the owners manual isn't in my current (newish) car. I'm not sure if in 30 or 40 years time someone will think I'm an idiot or not.

Very cool story. I've had my '78 GTS 30 years now. Hoping my kids love them as much! Thought of trading toward newer stuff, but just plain old love this era of Ferrari. Hope your kids keep the interest as previous generations.
