Nice, but these cars approach their mission so differently that I am not sure if it makes sense to say one is winning over the other. Don't get me wrong, I love the Pista and one is coming to my garage soon, but I have always loved Porsches and a GT2 RS will be right next to my Pista. I am sure most Fiat owners on this board have a VW next to it; so you all know what I am talking about!!
Brake feel and more direct steering of the Pista are considered superior to the GT2RS. It's only a road test, performances are judged very similar.
Just took delivery of a GT2RS, and my track car is a GT3RS. Much prefer the sound/experience of the GT3RS. Pista coming soon
I just recently bought a 2018 488 challenge car and have done about half a dozen full track days so far. The car is a MONSTER. The most impressive car I have ever driven. Over -2g under braking, phenomenal shift times, engine and gearbox. If the Pista is even 75% of the challenge car it will be amazing.
Plan on tracking my Pista a bunch on the west coast, will have it in spring. If you're ever lookin to split track count me in!
John, I really admire the sentiment of wanting to track the pista but I am really a convert of having a proper track car for the track. I don’t think driving a 200 mph+ road supercar on the track is particularly safe, there is no rollbar, no fire supression system, no 5 point harness (without which you cant wear a HANS device to stop your neck snapping if you have a frontal collision), you generally don’t wear fireproof suit with fireproof underwear, gloves, 8860 spec helmet etc. etc. I have a pista on the way too and look forward to driving it at 6/10 on public roads, redlining of course when safe to do so. Jeez I sound old, sorry
Exactly why I bought a dedicated track car: Radical SR3 RSX. I pull 3G at Mosport, brake much deeper into corners than any production car, but only reach 145 mph top speed. Hans, fire extinguisher system, roll bars, etc. Maybe, I’m old, too, but it’s hard to ignore the kinetic energy equation. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think its one thing to take a car like the Pista to the track for a DE or two - but for constant, repeated driving, I agree you are better off with a track car. I also think its the harnesses that mean you really need the HANS. The harnesses lock you down. The 3 point belt + airbag can give you some slack so your body isn't quite so fixed in place.
Totally get it! I've been racing for many years, been through everything from formula fords to radicals, now running with PCA/POC and a couple other groups w friends of similar abilities. I have all of the above on my GT3RS minus fire suppression... just enjoy getting these cars out on the track in a non-competitive environment. I run Hoosiers/Pirelli slicks w full track support, and I intend on tracking my Pista as often as I can...and yes...I know it's not the smartest thing to do!
