Yes, and Hamilton is always more exhausted than the rest of the grid, who are also driving their cars to the limit.

He's obviously fast so in the right car he would still do ok, but again as now it all depends on the car, i think Alesi is the biggest example, imo he's far more talented than Elton will ever be (you just have to look at the races he did with that ****box he was driving and he's only got one victory...it's all about the car...unless your name is Gilles Villeneuve and you manage to win a couple of races with the worst ca r on the grid but even then, it wouldn't be enough for a championship, there's a limit to what you can do during an entire championship, even for him.
Last driver that won a title without having the best car was Shummy (let's say Kimi's ferrari was as good as elton's Mclaren) in 94 and 95, those 2 titles where clearly won by his superior talent over the williams/Hill tandem...Elton would have never been able to do that.

    I wouldn't know...
ps: how does it feel to know that there are so many better drivers that never won a title?

Certainly some good drivers who never won a title.

    Better? Nope.

Because one of them died, one of them was subjected to the greatest driver in the world ever, and Alonso came along and made completely the wrong car choices after his two championships? Mmmmmm, you are so insightful .... not

Since titles are evidence of good drivers, then you statement holds no water.

Some people sweat more than others in the gym, and it's not a great indicator for who is putting in the most effort or getting the best workout. Maybe I'm cynical, but he always looks the most worn out among his peers at the end of every race, and I don't subscribe to the theory that the reason for that is that he's the only one trying his hardest every lap.

I suspect Hamilton is plenty fit for F1, but the kneeling, shaking, huffing and puffing are strategic - gives him more thinking time to answer questions and makes him look more heroic for pulling off the win. If he jumps out of the best car on the grid looking like he could go another 50 laps, people will attribute too much of the success to the car and not enough to him personally.

With medical advances and improved fitness knowledge, there's no reason the current crop of F1 drivers won't be the fittest grid in the sport's history.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I'm gonna weigh in on this one. I don't care.

He's winning now, he's won before, but I can't speculate on how he'd do against the best drivers from a former era in an older car.

How well would a 25 year old MS do in the current series? Dunno, don't care. He won a lot in his time and that's what matters.

Enjoy them for what they were, or are, in their prime, not what they might have been in some other time.

Minor correction 5 years (2014-2018). The turbo hybrid Formula was made perfect for Mercedes and it has not lost its signicant advantage. There has been false hope (myself included) that Ferrari could challenge, but the built in advantage has been insurmountable . There is not a driver in the grid that eould not have traded their ride for a Mercedes in the turbo hubrid era if they wanted to win.

We may as well ask how Fangio would do in a Minardi. Probably about as well as Zsolt Baumgartner.

These kind of discussions are fun, with a few beers. Otherwise, what the heck are we talking about?? Nothing.

The more interesting question is how many titles Fangio would have won if the war did not take away some of his best years....
Asking people of that period maybe none of the later F1 drivers ever matched Fangios talent making it look so easy driving these cars. And maybe even more important: I doubt one will find anyone talking bad about Fangio as a person

Everybody has their time, Fangio, Prost, Senna, Micheal, now its Hammer time. Ham has won a race every year since he been in F1. Dominate car or not. Hamilton is definitely top 3 of all time because of his qualifying. With qualifying its just you and the car driving on the limit. In racing you can loose a championship if your engine blew, flat tire, get hit by Verstappen etc. Hamilton's pole record show's he is the greatest at car control on the limit.

    LOL

Good one and definitely true. He has grown so much as a driver. He was a super talent to begin with and over the years and races added racecraft and strategy to the game. One of the greatest F1 drivers of all times. Only the future will tell whether he'll even become #1. There is a good chance.

As did his team mate in every season but 2009 so why is that so spectacular that you guys never get tired bringing this up as being the 8th wonder of the world?...Oh wait, Bottas did not win this year because he had to move aside or was not allowed to attack (although poor Lewis never had a no.2 driver in his entire career...sniff) ;)
