I believe that in the middle of the next year, Vettel will leave Scuderia because Leclerc will be faster than him. Remember this.

Ferrari has been notorious on hiring rookies as drivers. That way the drivers are discipline, grow and adopt with the team. However, Vettel even though young at age, came to the team as a 4 time world champion with his own persona, experience and higher expectations. It seems that he fights against the team instead of helping to grow along with it. I'm sure they have been discussions within the team. I like Vettel he needs to listen to the ones who pay his salary.

I think Vettel will do worse next year with Kimi not in the team. Kimi has a proven track record of car development, I think without his experience the team overall and Vettel in particular will suffer. In addition, Kimi had made his peace with being number two in the team. If Leclerc turns out to be like Max then Vettel's season will go south very fast. I think Ferrari should focus next season on winning the constructors championship rather than drivers (something that they should focus on now and give more freedom to Kimi).

P.S. I have never been a Vettel fan. I have always believed that he is a one trick pony, really good at leading from the front in the best car. This season has only reinforced my belief.

    Agreed.

It's very clear now that his "flight" to Ferrari in 2014 was not a "positive choice to emulate his idol" but a "negative motivation" as his teammate DR was sweeping the floor with him.

Even that isn't as easy as it seems.

Also, can you blame a driver for having a good car .?

Fernando was bang on. Proves that if you don’t have the right car, you are nowhere in f1 these days and it’s even more apparent with the Mercedes which was built to suit the design of the new regulations by those writing those regulations. F1 has been completely hoodwinked by Mercedes and their back room arrangements with the FIA, who pander to their every whim, terrified they will pick up their ball and walk from the field if they don’t get preferential terms

I root for whoever is in a red car and trying to win races.

That doesn't mean I defend Seb's mistakes but I don't see lack of effort as one of his problems.
Does that mean I necessarily want him to be there long term? Not necessarily but, whilst he is, of course I want him to win races.
In fact because I hate to see a fundamentally decent man (who has given his all) beaten up by the comminteriat, I want him to win even more.

There is no real driver alternative next year, Ricci or Alonso is fantasy ! So we/Ferrari should be concentrating on what actually can be changed by the team : tactics and strategy. We need to learn every lesson we can to develop next years car from the best building block (this year's car) that we have had in ages.

Yes it hurts this year but If frustration stops you rooting for Ferrari's lead and quickest driver to win races , you have picked the wrong team to support.

I'm surprised by the Anti Vettel stuff. He's as good if not better than Hamilton. Ferrari have just not had a consistent enough car, and the strategy calls for pit stops have been terrible. so if Vettel is doing that from the car - he's bad at it and needs better support around him. As the team they went out on intermediates for qualifying ... and then Vettle spun... so one mistake begets another. the desperation at Ferrari is palpable, I think this is compounded by Marchionne not being in the background supporting people, now everyone is in preservation mode.

Leclerc may be joining Ferrari at a horrible time, if the infighting continues or escalates ... he's going to be like Alesi. .... I hope not but possibility is out there. I have faith in Vettel... but he needs superior equipment.. and that is Ferrari.

Seb has had a tough year, for certain...I’m not willing to give up on him though. He’s always had a bit of impatience when driving from behind and I’d imagine a year that so glaringly forces him to reckon with the issue will change him. He’s still a fast driver, but he’s the flip side of Max: Max will hit you if you try to pass him, Seb will hit you as he tries to pass you. Both can sharpen their tools and come back stronger. I’d expect it from Vettel sooner though, as Max doesn’t see any problems with his moves.

As far as this season goes, opportunity lost. It was a team failure though, not simply Seb’s. That car was good enough to win every race up to (surprisingly) Singapore.

I agree that the team owns its dysfunction, but Seb must be accountable for his poor judgement that cost him victories also. In the last race, why choose the high-speed Spoon curve to attempt a pass on Verstappen? He could have passed him on the straight before 180r or Turn 1. Not a good gamble (though I’m certain he would say you pass people in the places they DON’T expect it).

He’s been driving long enough to know how to keep his nose clean.

You nailed it Sid, there is virtually no discussion anywhere of how Mercedes essentially wrote the regulations.

I hope not as well--Alesi one of the great talents of his era.

Absolutely. As I’ve said before, Seb is overdriving and getting desperate trying to extricate a positive result from the negative the team keep putting him in. However, my concern is that with the amount of mistakes the team makes, and as a result, he has made, have ferrari broken him? I wonder if he won’t reach a point (or have reached it) where he loses faith in ferrari as alonso did, to provide him with the car AND THE STRATEGIC SUPPORT to win a championship. Remember, this guy comes from red bull where their strategists and pit crews are likely the best out there, ferrari are quick but rarely good!

This is the risk. There is already far, far too much expecation resting on his shoulders.

Some even think that he will be faster than Vettel straightaway and oust him from the Scuderia.

There has been so many instances in the past when joining Ferrari has proven the kiss of death for a Young driver: Amon, Ickx, etc...

I hope it won't be the same for Leclerc, but landing at Maranello in the middle of a crisis isn't without risk.
