At least if you are in a crap car your name comes up in the race report, and you may even show some of your skill for all to see in the media, like a daring overtaking, a ruthless defense, or maybe a grid position that makes you get noticed.
But working on a simulator, you work will go unnoticed and your name will soon be forgotten, IMO.

I’m not sure driving with Williams is better than sitting out the season waiting for a drive almost anywhere else, but I wish George the best.... unfortunately, joining a team that appears in decline rarely allows a driver with prospects to demonstrate enough to give other teams the chance to consider him for the next best drive. However, if Williams are able to interpret the new regs well, then with the Mercedes engine in the back, they may with a little luck be back to the midfield quickly

I think driving a simulator in a superior team that might have a spot open next year might be the better idea. Driving in a Williams for example leaves you little to no room to shine and you might be brandmarket as a backmarker. Very few drivers are able to drive several years in a backmarker and then all of the sudden get themself a good cockpit. I think Bottas f.e. would not be at Mercedes if he had to drive the current Williams for two year, he would have had no chance to convince anyone that he might be a good driver given the best material. So for Bottas Nicos leaving was the best possible timing.
I think if you go into the simulator and show the good team your work ethic and your understanding in the car in might bring you closer to the race cockpit in that team.

This is a complete no brainer, you grab whatever drive you can get with both hands.

Ocon is very much a MB 'driver' so that makes it very difficult to be selected by another team not linked to MB. So the only possibility now left for him is Williams (maybe).

MB have big plans for Ocon,he will do whatever they can offer him.

A rumour from USAGP is that Rich Energy is in talks with Williams, the same outfit that was trying to buy Force India.

Claire is desperate for money since Stroll and dad are exiting stage left. Rich Energy looks more like some "Mickey Mouse" outfit.

The best thing that could happen to Williams is Stroll going to FI. A car can be often be a good surprise or a bad surprise...no one will know for sure until it hits the track. Red Bull proved how easy it is to go from hero to zero in one off season. Ocon is a driver who is capable of pulling a car up the grid and getting the most out of it. Neither current Williams drivers can do that. Keeping active on the track keeps Ocon on top of the technology and if the right offer came along while he was at Williams, if Leclerc bombed out or Sebastion got injured or if Gasly proved a dud or if one of the Mercedes boys fell out...I think Ocon be high on all of their lists. And I think he would dump Mercedes for a ride in a Ferrari or a Red Bull...even a Toro Rosso if the Honda engine proves that good.

2 wins in 14 years is a sure sign of ineffective leadership. Worse yet is they will never get better. They need money and management, both of which they do not have. Another season of 0 prize money and they are toast.

Easily the worst team on the grid, worst drivers, worst car, worst management...with a Mercedes PU to boot.

What are the odds that Williams just drops out and isn't on the grid next year? They're sure burning through someone's money and getting nothing for it. Stroll is moving on, Putin wouldn't sponsor such a sickly team, there is just no reason for the team to continue.
