Yummy food on the BGE! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login It's the time of the year when a lot of the small town VFDs do their fund raiser fish fry/BBQ. This is the small towns of Greenwood and Slidell. The rain forced a change of venue to the Eagles Canyon track. T
Haven't been here in a couple of days...good stuff gents! Catching up on recent dinners...after posting so many steaks and lots of bacon (in the breakfast thread), I figured I would try and eat a bit healthier, so here are some of those attempts: Salad with grilled chicken (was "meh") Image Unavailable, Please Login Indian-spiced Salmon (was ok, but reminded me why I rarely eat cooked fish) Image Unavailable, Please Login Sole Piccata (was a ton of fun to make and very tasty. Still, I'm done with fish for a while) Image Unavailable, Please Login
So, in full-disclosure, I also had filet mignon the same night as the salmon and shared with Ania - but there was a small salad, so still healthy Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ok, last one to catch up. We live in a pretty red-necky area of Wyoming in the summer with little to no ethnic or interesting food, and thus were shocked to see a hand-written sign stuck on a post near our house promising "Gumbo"...we followed the arrows to a small building were a couple of ladies who recently moved here from Louisiana were making gumbo! Was darn good and a real treat to get here (Ania and I love Nola and head down there 1-2x per year to eat and listen to music and enjoy the city). It had sausage and chicken and okra. We took one home and ate it and it was so good, we immediately drove back and grabbed two more and stuck them in the fridge for later. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Where you planning to eat? One word: Luizza’s (Get their specialty - the bbq shrimp po boy. Etouffee is good there too)
Grabbed a meat lovers pizza at an indi place near my house. It was ok. Have a Red Robin in my town, I've been to them in the states. Feel like a burger, so might give them a try here.
I'm pizza'd out after making it last week and having the left overs on Friday night. Tonight, early Sunday dinner, and an experiment. Wife saw one of those meal kits @ Kroger. It was on sale, more than half off. OK, sure, what the heck. I like a bargain. Well, first thing, you need to look @ the nutritional info. Many of these things are just loaded with sat fat & salt. Caloric content on some is also pretty wacky, for example, almost 900 cals per servings on the chicken enchiladas. Yikes! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Seems moderately OK on the sat fat, calories, and Na. The box opens up to these ingredients. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Look like a boat load of packaging. I guess I provide the S & P and olive oil. Directions seem reasonably thorough, but I am not much of a direction follower when it comes to cooking. I have to be as a scientist, as an amateur chef, no way! I read the directions quickly and then went about it in my usual Iron Chef style! Image Unavailable, Please Login Blurry photo of the kale with the red onions and cilantro. Turns out the latter 2 ingredients were for the mango salsa. Oops! Image Unavailable, Please Login I cubed the chicken. Faster to cook through, more surface area to sop up the jerk sauce. Not bad spice on the jerk sauce. From start to finish about 30 mins. Final analysis - for 6 and a half bucks, dinner for two, fine. At full price of $18? Probably not...T
I worked until dark in the yard yesterday, so dinner was from a can and jars for speed and simplicity. A stack of spam grilled, kalamata olives, mandarin oranges...and some homemade apple sauce. Image Unavailable, Please Login
What do some of the bbq kings think? Served on toasted multigrain ciabatta brushed with spicy mayo, bbq sauce, and aged cheddar cheese. I thought I had a kale slaw around but I did not so I was missing that. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh, Ron, you & your mustard fetish! That homemade apple sauce looks 10x better than anything you'll see @ the grocery store...T
Dude, white bread with Q, white bread. Ciabatta? Way too fancy. Good thing the kale slaw went missing, or we'd have to revoke your F-chat membership! In all seriousness, that looks pretty awesome. Did you do it in a smoker? Oven? slow cooker? How long? T
You, Tamas, are ready to be christened an honorary Southerner! I was at a fish fry Sunday, the best dessert was a red velvet cake with Coca Cola frosting. Only in the South is Coca Cola an ingredient. T
You're cooking up a storm before your Texas trip. Gonna grill it or cook in the oven? Image Unavailable, Please Login Lamb! It's got about a minute or two to go here. Sautéed a quarter of an onion. Some grape tomatoes. Leg of lamb cubed up. Lots of garlic powder and freshly squeezed lemon juice. A pinch or two of Herbes de Provence. Deglaze with white wine. Sorry, Ron, no mustard! [emoji6] Pearl or Israeli couscous. A little olive oil and garlic powder. Finish with grated parmesan. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Finished product. A little red pepper flake. T
Yes . Only been to the Vegas one and here. Been coming since I was a kid , when the Beverly Hills location was across from it now . Still good as always. Now they added a Rib eye to the menu. Might just have to try that out next time .
They have a branch in Dallas. I checked out the menu last night. A lot more non-prime rib items than I recall when we were at the Beverly Hills location. T
To finish the opened can of spam...... Image Unavailable, Please Login Kale, mushrooms, spam, corn pasta
You ever try making spam musubi? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_musubi Hugely popular in Hawaii. Great with a splash of shoyu. T
