    Area ruling is usually used to wasp waist the fuselage to cause less drag from less contact area with the airflow, ala F-102 vs F-92.

    The shock bodies were essentially used to bleed off wave formation. The area rule concept is to maintain an even area across the span of the frontal area instead of the sharp increase where the body is. If my memory is correct.

    Bob- Affirmative, plus an indented fuselage to decrease surface area in contact with the airstream and conical camber was designed to do that for the wing. The Russians used wing fences to keep airflow where it was supposed to be until they got a better handle on aerodynamics.
