This mule may be but the 488 replacement for sure no hybrid. V8 turbo and new name of course.....it’s a completely new car, inside and outside, but not a revolution - @ Geneva 2019 Hybrid car will come two years later and it will be on top of the “new 488” as positioning/segment......and this is why there are already mules under testing! Hybrid as Ferrari intend is a long way.....
Something sounds weird with your agenda . The car seen yesterday is an hybrid with the definitive bodywork and you said Ferrari will reveal it in two years time ..
I’m trying to understand this logic. The reason to do a hybrid is because of emissions which are becoming more difficult right now, with 2020 being a key year for measurement. - meaning your car has to be on sale at the start to get the full impact. Even if this somehow did not affect Ferrari, why go to the expense of building a new car on a platform that has to be designed to take hybrid and not put one in there? The only logical argument is that Ferrari are delaying the intro of hybrid and will go once more on the 458/488 platform with a third model. This is a big risk IMV and does not really coincide with everything I have heard through other customers and my dealer. Surely they would not invest heavily to replace the 488 for a short-run model but stretch it out with more special editions? The most likely scenario seems to be a hybrid mid-engined car is being developed and will debut in Geneva for sales later 2019. Whether that is a 488 replacement or something bigger is hard to tell.
just one curiosity regarding your statement. how you can be sure that the car seen yesterday is an hybrid with the definitive bodywork? how you can be sure that car is the 488 replacement mule? are you a member of hybrid development team or 488 replacement team? you were in that car? are you executive of F?......so let's say that yours are assumptions as mine btw is not my agenda.......at the end wait and see. sure I am totally wrong! 6 months later we will know the name and tech features of 488 replacement but I bid one Espresso to everybody is saying that the 488 replacement will be hybrid!!.....I will be in Geneva so come to drink your coffee please!
as far as I understood the 488 replacement will have a normal run and the hybrid sport model (end 2020) will be a new model running in parallel with 488 replacement. But with a positioning/segment above 488 replacement......this is also make sense with the announcement of 15 new cars in the next 5 years
I didn't want to hurt you , you surely have better insiders connections than me , Ps : I would like a ristretto for Geneva please !
IMO hybrid sport model will compete with the Aventador and will be a segment above 488 in performance and price. Geneva 2019 will be interesting and not long to know what Ferrari will show there. They also have Frankfurt next year to release another model. So 2019 should be a great year for exciting new products. Best to save some money as one will need it
I was not in the car and I do not work in Ferrari, but I can confirm that the car in the pictures with black camouflage is an hybrid one. And under the camouflage its indeed the final bodywork. I will not post the internal codes anymore since last time I had some little problems, but lets call this one "488 big brother". The car is ready in terms of exterior and interior and you will see it sooner than you stated. It looks like a proper spaceship, very in line with its hybrid and top technology. The 488 replacement its indeed not the car in the pictures.
you didn't hurt me at all.....this is part of the fun!! new models.....new predictions, new expectations and at the end in one world excitement I am waiting you and all F friends at Geneva......espresso and champagne for everybody!!!!!........in the Ferrari host area :::::))))
We share the same passion and you are completely right , discussions and speculations are part of the fun ! Unfortunately I can't afford ferraris anymore ( maybe later in my lifetime , I'm just 45 ) Anyway , big thanks for your invitation in Geneva , but I won't go until I feel legitimate .. Best regards
Having no insider information, here's what I can imagine: - new model, V8 hybrid, positioned above the 488, unveiled at Geneva 2019 - this gives one more year for the 488, which is becoming outdated - so an opportunity to sell more Pista during that time - in Frankfurt 2019 (for first deliveries later in 2020), unveiling of the 488 replacement, with a V6 The rationale being that the V6 will be accepted to replace a outdated V8.
According to that article in 'thesupercarblog', I'm guessing they'll show the new "488's big brother" at least in private in December this year.
Maybe they put the electric symbol on the test car because it is shockingly good?! As I understand it, the 488 should conclude by the end of 2019 so I don't think they will make more Pista; but I suppose they could always change their mind. I hope they do hybrid in a new and exciting way that captures our imaginations. I am hoping to say "oh wow" when they do reveal it.
So to sum up: * December 2018 preview will showcase the new F1 inspired hybrid V6 spider model with a brand new body design. This Ferrari will then appear for the public to see at the March 7 2019 Geneva Auto Show. *June 2019 will be the private preview at the factory for the 488 replacement model as a coupe only. *September 12 2019 at the Frankfurt Auto Show will see the new replacement for the 488 debut in public with an improved twin turbo V8 (no hybrid) but with a new body and interior and still only in a coupe version. Yes, no?
Might need a new category for this car instead on "488 replacement" under 458/488 section which clearly its not
I think no? Is it not V8 turbo hybrid (spyshot car) as an all new model above the 488 shown in December then presumably Geneva, followed by V6 hybrid 488 replacement shown in September at Frankfurt? I would imagine the price points not the engine determine what car any new one replaces. Therefore new V6 hybrid in the £220-£250k range (488 replacement) and new V8 hybrid in the £300k+ range as a new model. Unless it is really a hyper-car competitor in terms of power, say 900bhp, in which case as a regular production model it might be £400k+. That would give the following lineup;- Portofino at 600bhp/£180k, V6 hybrid at 700bhp/£220k, Lusso T/Lusso at 690bhp/£250k, 812 at 800bhp/£260k, V8 hybrid at 900bhp/£400k and Monza at £1.5m plus Pista and Spider during 2019/2020 (all prices before options). That’s a healthy product portfolio!
