Ares has done this kind of thing a few times recently and I think this is the best example of their work. It doesn't look "overly modern" but classy and assertive. I like it a lot.

 

The bulbous roof does not look right to me though.

 

I love it. Needs to lose the rubber band tyres and go back to smaller rims and higher profiles - maybe 18 or even 17 inch

 

I like it a lot. Which is kind of funny, because when the 456GT came out I said "It's about time!"

 

I agree. I'm truly sick of these mega-hoops on cars these days. Of course, I'm 66.

 

It is the 412 catapulted into our era. Nice job, but I agree about the rims.

Agree. The roof peaks too far aft. Really spoils the whole car. That and the poor wheel design make it look really amateurish.

Yep, you are right. These are the wheels of my 412. 340 is hardly 14 inch. So 18 inch would do it. With a more catchy design.

 

Maybe I sound old, but this is So Much better than the FF.

I would actually consider driving this.

Like others here love it. For the +1 milon ove a Ff this will cost Im sure you can have wheels to suit your tastes.
However behind the wheel youre driving an FF Lusso and thats where it all falls apart. theta Techno dash, maybe a stick option would make it more appealing, but then the 400 was never a stick sort of car anyway.

It does make one appreciate the 456 a lot though, pity that car has such a sucky ride, hard on bumps and poor body controll in corners, lifeless steering and a motor that never really hits. Makes me think of a 456 with worked motor and suspesion would cost way less and be more fun.

B/S,anyone who says that has never really driven one in anger.

To qualify that though,I have never driven a 400,only my 365 (which as you all know only came in a manual).

Is there anyone here who has driven the manual version of the 365,400 carby and 400i.

I don't know which 456 you were driving - must have been a stinker. The one I drove went like a rocket, was tight as a drum and rode the bumps well, and the steering was pin sharp for a car of that size.

Its a box on wheels, a sedan as one bystander called my 400i and he was right. I love my 400i for what it is but a manual doesn't suit the design in my opinion either and if I recall correctly the majority of them built were automatics. Must be a reason! And I doubt it was because Ferrari had a discount on Turbo 400 GM transmissions. If I want to drive a car in anger I go for the BB, if I want to relax and be in a Ferrari most of the planet doesn't recognize as one Ill take the 400.

Maybe the ones that say it must be a manual don't have other cool cars to drive so they need all they can get in one car? (and thats a blanket statement similar to yours )

 

Well old mate,I'd prefer to drive my 365 hard than my 308,much more predictable and less flighty than the rear engined example.
Both carby cars and both well sorted mechanically.
I daresay that the manual 365 is a better option than a BB as I've heard they're somewhat 911ish if pushed hard (I don't have any experience of that,just chat from Ferrari blokes)

It's really sad that the folk on here think that way of the 365/400 'cos they're dynamite when driven hard.....go to a track day and have a crack at it.

 

My understading is that the stick had a very low takeup rate, and this in an era when all the other ferraris were stick only. The 3 speed slushbox was drage.

For sure a 400 stick is more fun and closer to daytona.
