Alonso bashes "amateurs" in F1, including the guy who pushed him off today (aka Lance Stroll)

    https://www.planetf1.com/news/alonso-these-guys-impossible-to-race-with/

“I’m not upset – I’m disappointed because I’m here [for] nine days in the US to do a race and I do 600 meters of the race and they push you off,” he added.

“That’s the way it is, but it’s more a problem for the FIA if they keep allowing this type of driving.

“I drive in another series with amateur drivers, theoretically, and there has never been a problem.

“There are more amateurs here than in other series.

He added: “Maybe when there’s a big crash they will do something.

“Until then we’ll try to have fun in other categories where we race against 34 cars, against amateur people, against 60-year-old men and nothing ever happens.

Like him or loathe him, Alonso is a great driver. Next year Lance Stroll will have a seat with a competitive mid-field team, a drive that this year Alonso could only dream of. More F1 lunacy.

He is correct. There are a lot of amateur drivers in F1 (meaning they don't get paid) and not as many professionals (the ones that get paid). It's ridiculous at this level.

Alonso plays down post-race criticisms of F1 rivals.

After watching the replays, there was not much anyone could do.

Disappointed race. Only 600 meters before getting hit from behind. Watching now the replays not much anyone could do, too many cars together into T4 Image Unavailable, Please Login . Just that Image Unavailable, Please Login . Just unlucky today. Now focus, preparation, and let’s hope this brings a nice result in Mexico next week.

Maybe if Alonso wasn’t so toxic he’d be driving a car and for a team that could place away from the amateurs.

If FI gives Stroll a good car and he still ends up at the back of the pack, his fate is sealed and even his dad will see it. If he's competitive with Perez then everyone has to reconsider him. There is no point in wishing him ill...non of us will have to do his driving or be making decisions about him.

If he paces with Perez? Sergio having his arms and legs amputated or something for next year? Stroll couldn’t keep up with him if he was on a tow rope behind him...heheheheheehe

Felipe was an indication if how non competitive Stroll is. That was enough.

    That is crazy.

I do wish Alonzo was having a better final season in F1.

    From planetf1:

Lance Stroll: Q1 exit. Check. Opening lap collision. Check. Drive through penalty. Check. Last on circuit. Check. It’s hard to envision how this weekend could have gone any worse for Stroll. Now it’s just a case of waiting for 2019 and seeing what he can do at Force India. On this evidence, not much. 4.5

While not a Stroll fan, I'm not as anti Stroll as many. While I do agree that he's not a Hamilton, Max, Alonso etc. I'm not ready to write him off altogether. Last year he finished one place behind Massa but on the same points. I don't think that's the performance of the average pay to play driver. We can ***** about it all we want, but at the end of the day he did with the 2016 F3 title improving massively over his 2015 5th place. I also agree that he probably arrived too early in F1. Another year or two in lower formula may have produced a more rounded driver. Let's see how next year shapes up when he's team mates with Perez, who after being shafted my McLaren has proven himself a very strong driver in 2nd tier machinery.

Stroll complained that Massa wasn't helping him enough. Now no one helps him and he's gotten worse.

F1 is a team sport. You have to help the engineers and they can help you. If you can't help them it's just guesswork. Massa from all accounts was one of the best at this.

Massa was a driver/racer, not a teacher. For Stroll to be a winner, papa would need to buy something that can help him. I don't think the FIA is for sale right now. He'll need to wait until Mercedes is done with them. ;)
