    adjective: vintage

    1. relating to or denoting wine of high quality.
    "vintage claret"
synonymes : high-quality, quality, prime, choice, select, superior, best
    "vintage French wine"
    2. denoting something from the past of high quality, especially something representing the best of its kind.
    "a vintage Sherlock Holmes adventure"

synonymes : high-quality, quality, prime, choice, select, superior, best Plus

Horner probably used the word "vintage'" to mean high quality.

Three years is a big percentage of life when you are 21 ;)

Good to see you keeping an open mind beyond Hamilton :D

I have a very open mind about F1, and have no allegiance to any one driver or team. I call them like I see them, unlike some on here who stick with a specific driver no matter what they do.

I like how you are trying to imply that I am some kind of Lewis fanboy.................I will not engage in any childish games.

I am a fan of the sport.

Perhaps. It was a good drive. The vintage word still made me chuckle. I imagine Max had a vintage something to celebrate.

Max' story goes back to karting, no? So I don't chuckle when someone calls a performance of his vintage. He has a long track record for such a young dude.

I suppose. In the context of the "F1 stage" and the fact the oldest F1 driver had just ended a long drought between wins, I found the vintage word a bit out of place. Not a big deal either way. I like hearing Christian Horner's perspective regardless.

It may be that "vintage" has a different connotation in Britain than in the USA.
Here, it means something to remember, something outstanding.

Same. Then I sighed. And lol some more.

BTW- I did not realize until after race the Flyby was done by some of Verstappen's countrymen (RNLAF Apaches and Chinooks).

I don't understand why karting isn't such a big sport in the US?

Yep. I chatted with a couple pilots (admiring their perfect English). All these years I had no idea RNLAF had helos in TX. I was aware of Singapore, Taiwanese, and Luftwaffe tactical aircraft scattered throughout the Southwest, but not these. Most of the helos came straight from the factory to TX and have not been overseas. Other RNLAF helos are used for those things.

Nor do I. I got into trail bikes when I was twelve. But karting was never on my radar. I think I would have gravitated to it. As it was, I was in the primordial ooze of Moto Cross, "MX."

It was late 60's when I got my first vehicle, a Honda 70 Mini Trail. Still better on a bike than in a car.

Apache, F16 and F35 pilots receive most of their training in the US (Tucson Air Force Base, Sheppard Air Force Base, Fort Rucker, Fort Hood, Edwards Air Force Base).

A small overcrowded country means not a lot of room for tactical and weapon training.

Same here.. 1970 had a go-cart at 13 years old but the only place to go was empty parking lots or industrial parks with my Dad on a Sunday. So then got a Rupp Scrambler, then an SL70 Honda and eventually an Elsinore CR125.

Motorsports in general is not as popular here when you have NBA, NFL, and MLB dominating the TV and local markets. Nascar was the closest thing to get kids involved, but the sport is way too expensive and biased toward the wealthy unlike the other major leagues. All you need is a ball.

I wanted to learn to play golf growing up like some of my friends as I grew up in Orlando next to Bay Hill, but my family couldn't afford it. Now I'm old and don't have the time or energy to learn. Similar deal with motorsports.

These posts were made in another thread, but I thought I'd cut/paste and comment here.

Yes. I agree Verstappen wants to establish this reputation.

I'm pondering how his driving style will interact with the variables of a new Honda motor and teammate next year.

Max is and has been the number one at Red Bull this year and last. The contract is proof - long term and early. Daniel was treated subtly but differently in relation to Max. Horner will deny but he is F1 worst liar lol :) :)

Yep, red bull put their faith in the Maxine lot years ago, now Horner is duty bound to do everything he can to realise the phenomenon as a champion......... his teams success (and maybe it’s future in f1) depend on max achieving what everyone says is his destiny. If he doesn’t, who knows what may happen to red bull racing.... they are gambling the house on the Dutchman

RBR has an established history of treating #2 drivers like chattel, especially if they are from Australia. I don't blame Ricciardo for bailing.

They were not offering him equal pay from what is published. Status was in question as well. I agree with you on his departure as well.
