    Gentlemen,

Perhaps someone may be able to determine what model of Ferrari this is here accessorizing the young lady on the cover of Playboy Magazine in March of 1978? The text accompanying the photos only alluded to the car being a Ferrari, but made no mention of its type.

I realize there is very little of it visible in this cover photo.

I recall that a reader wrote in a few months after this was published and chastised Playboy’s editors for not appropriately identifying and crediting the vehicle. As that reader put it....the car was “ significantly more alluring than the likes of Mrs. Jensen” LOL.

I dare say at 13 when I saw that that the car was not what I was looking at. Now at 53.....

LOL. At 56...sadly I have a better chance of getting that car (despite its price tag). And that chance is very, very slim.

Appreciate the sleuthing. Amazing the information one has at one’s fingertips these days.

Google images gave me a few choices. Best I can tell this is very similar (if not THE very car).

As I’m no afficianado of these cars, what might be the value of this vehicle now?

I recall that the car looked a bit edgy in the cover photo--some corrosion on the underside of the door?

Do any of the other photos have a number plate on ?
Can you post any other photos or are they too rude?

Well....thats a good question. I bet most of the rest would require some photoshoping to be appropriate. LOL.

As Sixcrbs mentioned earlier, the car was owned at the time by a gentleman named Bob Topaz. Apparently he was a well known car show promoter.

I think Ed was joking about the serial number, as it would start with a 1.

If you have the car number plate that would help alot.

I don't really want to buy the mag as I am in enough trouble already at home!

Now that we know the owner of the car (or maybe a dealer-- apparently Bob Topaz ran something called the "Auto Expo" back in those days), I imagine Marcel or Ed Niles can come up with the serial number or some background info pretty quickly.

Love this. Late 70's, three of us split a bottle of wine with dinner. Bob loaned me his Daytona to drive down the hill and pick up our friend Lorna. On the way back to Bob's house I was pulled over on Sunset Blvd. and given a passing sobriety test. Great times!!!

Bob was a very good friend of H. Hefner. Unfortunately, Bob was only allowed to bring ladies over to the mansion, not guy friends. Bob was able to drop in anytime.

There's another Ferrari Daytona on the cover of something. Here's a hint: Your search for a clue has "just begun."

It's not a book, but the story ends tragically.
If you are under 35 or 40, I wouldn't expect you to know the answer. Only us old farts.

Well, it took nearly 22 hours, but yes. Knowing this crowd, I was expecting a scan of the album cover, someone providing the serial number, Mr. Massini providing the original exterior and interior color numbers and Mr Niles commenting on either owning or brokering this Daytona, all within the span of 10 minutes from my posting! Guess everybody was out shopping.
