Nice car for sure. But I can't get past how close it resembles a c7 Corvette. That alone could hurt value.

I'm not sure that's a valid statement... A rolls royce ghost looks like a chrysler 300. It actually looks like it. The value of the ghost is no where near affected by that car or vise versa. So I highly doubt this is anywhere related.

I can't think of a better car for the purpose. LaF is too wide for some of those Alpine roads. You'll have fun for sure.

I like this thread, one of the best I’ve read in a while about future values! Hope you buy one my friend, and if you do just buy a 430 or 458 for those days when you really want to put some miles on something with a horsey but don’t want to risk your long term investment! If you can afford a million pound car, you can afford to add another £150k to play with!

Thank you for the kind words. That's actually something I've been considering but along the lines of having a porsche panamera as a daily and having an aventador or an f12 as a second car. I wouldn't want to have more than 3 cars but having a daily, a weekend car and a special event car sounds very attractive to me as a structure. Overlooking the whole market of cars that should be good for the future i can only see the tdf being something i'm really interested in. The car seems to have a very expensive aura to it in person. Something more than what would be expected. An aventador sv for example will for sure be a car that holds and all that. But the tdf to me seems like it has that extra hint of exclusivity and as I wrote somewhere above "scaryness" to it that makes it that much more exciting. Having a car in which you'd always have a mystery of going full throttle in would make it that much more exciting.

I agree with that..... definitely. My concern would be on the SV as the fun car between the Porker and the Ferrari, if you are going to be living in Switzerland. The roads there, well, in Europe really, are quite skinny, and an SV is a wide car, do you think you will get to exploit its abilities enough to really enjoy it? I would have thought something a bit slimmer and more lithe would be a better fit in that part of the world, such as a 458, or better (and I hate myself for saying this) a Porsche GT3, or even a manual Carerra 2, given they are much smaller cars and therefore can be flung around much more and as we all know - flingable = fun and high jinx! Just don’t fling it off the mountain!

Definitely something important to consider but I would cross out any porshe other than the panamera because I feel they're a bit too perfect. I just looked up dimensions and it seems the aventador is only about 9 cm wider than the 458. Pretty close to an f12 as well. The aventador is the ideal candidate for me to do city driving, highway driving and city to city. For mountains maybe not so but there are countless drivers who do the monaco trip and many others around france and seems to be fine.

You are planning on using ~10% throttle, and living in a country where speeding will result in huge fines...
Have you spent anytime behind the wheel of an F12?
An F12 can scare the hell out of you, comfortable for long drives, weekend use, and if in a quieter color like Titanio can be an under-the-radar daily driver. Given prices you could drive an F12 many miles of fun and still not be out huge cash compared to putting miles on a TDF.

Thanks for giving me some more thought. I have not spent any time behind an f12 because it is impossible to test drive. The thing with switzerland is germany in an hour or so north. There is the autobahn there. France and italy have beautiful roads which you don't have to go 100KM/h over, ever. So I'm not trying to achieve VMAX on any roads here. What I meant was it seems you can enjoy this car by only using 10-30%. Which is actually really nice because it means at low speeds you're enjoying it. Also, I might just end up with an f12. That's why I made this thread to figure it out.

Agreed. Honestly even 2,000 isn't so rare when you have cars like the aventador svj making 1,800 units 800 becomes a rare art collection or something like that.

Don't forget the Autostrada (Italy)...and the Ferrari home, I'm sure they would always welcome a Tdf arrival!

Or go super exclusive with a Pagani (any edition)!

Of course :) everyone is italy will be very passionate about it on the road. Even more so in maranello. For a pagani I'd need to have at least 40 million in assets to be comfortable, so not there yet haha.

I'd be good with 20 million :) before making the Pagani plunge! You are quite conservative!

A 3 million dollar car with 1 million in depreciation, service and insurance comes to a 4 million dollar car. Shouldn't be more than 10% if you're paying cash for me. But i'm interested in seeing the future versions of pagani and bugatti. Who knows, maybe when I build my dream house in however many years i'll be wanting some art.

I didn't know they depreciated at all, they have a very limited production and listing prices for the few that are for sale are all quite a bit over list price. So, other than taxes, maintenance and insurance, thought that would be all the costs involved.

Well, except for fun like this:

Well something is worth not what it's listed for but rather what it sells for. These cars are in the same market as bugatti. Some of these cars could sit 2 years on the market without selling at the same price it was bought at. These cars usually only sell used when there's a good discount. Otherwise why would someone spend 3M on a car when they can spec themselves a new one? I haven't owned a pagani myself but from research and logic that's the market.

    Good points :)

The Tdf is looking like a bargain in comparison! Just find the right motivated seller...

I definitely think the TDF will be a good buy, as it has all the latest technology, the latest reliability is assured, is scary as .... on the ragged edge, in fact, with space to the ragged edge, and they are a limited number. Since there are more and more millionaires out there all the time, the demand for such a colossal car can only get larger as it is, in comparison to similar cars, very well priced....

With a special car, there is always a buyer, and as long as you are not desperate to sell within a few weeks, someone will come along with the right money at some point as there are going to be few opportunities to buy one.

F12 tdf is a gorgeous car, but why not buy a high mile F12? My old F12 with 30,000 miles just showed on eBay asking $205k, probably worth $150k. Has extended warranty, all gremlins worked out, hey I may buy it back myself! At that price point just drive it until the wheels fall off, put the remaining $850k in the stock market for the next 10 years.

I'm looking for more than something to drive the hell out of. Something much more special. And I'm already getting setup on investments. We only live one life so I can't always invest every last dollar. As i've mentioned above the scary factor and all those other points are pointing me to it.

I'm not a fan of manual cars. It's the design of the tdf that gets me drooling. But I can see what you mean.
