Today in first world problems, the mag light with My Ferrari's tool kit is sealed shut, probably full of decade-old batteries. Any idea how to get it open? Anything like vice grips will damage the housing, but anything less seems unlikely to do the job at this point.

I had the same thing happen. I opened it from the light side and drilled the batteries out. After cleaning it out with a wire brush drill attachment, I then sprayed some Liquid Wrench in and let it sit for a couple of days (shook it every now and then with thumb over open side. The stuck side did end up requiring some clamping force to remove it, and I did a little bit of damage, but I at least had an operating light with fresh batteries.

As blacktop says... but chances of getting it working is problematic. The batteries in mine were frozen and I ended up buying one from an f-chatter. Five years ago you could get them for $75-100, now I see them for $300 and that’s if you can find one.

Can you use 2 rubber strap grabbers (like oil filter wrenches) to release them? If not, maybe a vice with a rubber pad or vice grips with cloths inbetween....where there're a will, there's a way...

After that, I would leave the batteries out of it and get another flashlight....a much better one for much, much, cheaper. That's more of a memorabilia piece IMO.

    My toolkit lives at home.

When you do replace the batteries I would use these. They have a long shelf life, but most importantly........ THEY NEVER LEAK

I use them in all my household remotes

yes just about ANY battery will leak when discharged. why not make it a thing to replace them every year at the annual service? I'm going to ! surely some clever chap could have a Chinese company make a reproduction? ( but you'd have to have a huge quantity made ! ) i'll ask mag light what the story is !

I did much the same. However, I ended up having to cut the end off. Bought a new silver one just for the end piece. The trick is getting the bulb holder out.

Has anyone tried soaking the light in PB blaster for a few days and then try to open?
Not sure if that would degrade the Ferrari silk screen
Maybe only do one end at a time.

We can easily put a mask over the graphics (I'd do a layer of 3M automotive masking tape over the whole graphic, and cover that with a larger layer of gorilla tape whose adhesive doesn't touch any part of the printing). It's not the tube we're interested in, after all, it's the seals!
