I think that's partly why Porsche GT2RS is priced at 300k, and that they are trying to increase the production of .2 gt3, to battle the flippers. But in the case of both Ferrari and Porsche, I lamented that it's the frigging dealers that also have a lot to do with the flipper issues.

But also from the car manufacturer perspective, car flipping does inevitably create a sense of strong demand for their cars.

Here is my conundrum. I want to get into a pista spider. I think we can all agree that it would be cool to have the newest and best. My
Predicament is that I have to pay over. The broker I use is quoting me 160K to possibly more depending on delivery. That would put me near a Speciale Aperta. I’m doing okay right now but even this would make me feel like a idiot for buying it over a 100 mile Aperta.

I LOVE the pista Spider and want the experience of specing it how I want but I’m not sure it’s worth it. With how much this car is do you think it’s worth moving into a Aperta or big down payment for tdf? I just don’t know what purpose it would serve in my garage. I want a toy I can drive around without regretting the miles. Thoughts appreciated [emoji846]

I you really want it and can easily afford it, do it :)
But I think you should not have any expectation of preserving your capital, the prices levels are currently high so while they can still go up they may also decrease a lot.
Making some money eventually is a potential nice bonus but not a given.

I think you might regret buying a car where you have the cost and deprecation in the back of your mind as you drive. Maybe that is the problem with a TDF? It is a great car but, at least in theory, if it is well above list it has more to lose and mileage won’t help that. The TDF is such an amazing car it could just be worth it for some but not on finance IMO. Same applies to the Speciale A for me, though it is cheaper so maybe a smaller issue.

If you believe others here that US dealers force you to buy a Lusso to get a Pista slot, then it stands to reason to get a Pista Spider slot you would have to buy more. $160k could be low if you didn’t want other cars, though I have some doubt it is possible. Do you know the vehicle source? Is the broker banking on supply becoming more available in the future, meaning that if it doesn’t you are left high and dry?

In the end it is only worth buying a car you want to own and drive. I bet Speciale A is as engaging to drive as Pista Spider (I have a Speciale - and a PS coming). And it is a properly numbered car so it is probably your best answer, despite the possible loss. The good news is you can drive one and find out. The Speciale I know to be a stunning car.

Does all this mean you've extended yourself and finally bought an electric scooter?

what is likely to happen is those buyers will go away, they wont become users.

Shortly after my pista was ordered, dealer GM called to ask whether I want to add the carbon diffuser, carbon engine covers, inner sills etc as they are all no cost options. I, of course, said yes. Picked up my pista 10 days ago and the carbon parts were all additional cost options. Base price is around 345k and my MSRP 437k. My pista also has no radio and I didn’t select radio delete. I was told you had to select radio on the order for Pistas. Luckily, the car doesn’t sound too bad so I can live without a radio. I was told my car is one of the first deliveries in the US and that’s why dealer didn’t know some of the changes the factory had made to the ordering system. Wish the factory could’ve communicated better with the dealers.

This won’t be a limited edition car by any means.

First congrats and thanks for sharing pictures before of your new delivery - Pista!
The radio or no radio is truly ironic as some Speciale customers wanted NO Radio and were told they had to take the radio and could not delete it on the order. This after several Speciale models were built early on without a radio!
Now the Pista comes without a radio and you have to specify it on the order.
The question of 'no cost' carbon pieces was discussed here and it seemed the rules changed depending on which country you took delivery of your car in. All of this back and forth seems par for the course when you are dealing with Ferrari...

Does no radio mean no sound system at all? Or can you still plug in usb from Iphone - just no actual radio tuner?

You know, Im not a big radio fan in exotics but id be pissed if this happened. Along with the surprise 75k bill for carbon. I know that the dealer did not know and Ferrari corporate did not communicate but thats a big miss. Not sure how I would react.

It never ceases to amaze me how much some dealers have no idea about the very product they sell.

That dealer GM should've paid better attention to the numerous press releases stating which CF options were complimentary and which weren't. The ones the poster mentioned were never in the press release (CF engine bay beyond the plenum and others). They should've worked with you as a courtesy for their screw up, but since it was a Pista, they thought you weren't going to put up much of a fight. Seeing how Pista is a hot car, they should've put up the study time.

One simple call to Ferrari NA would've clarified everything, but your GM chose to assume and left you holding the bill.

Oh wow. Not sure I would be happy with that surprise! To have no sound system whatsoever is sure going to reduce any sale prospects if/when that time comes around.

Can you make the dealer wear the car once they replace it with the spec you were expecting?

The first few cars on the market will always fetch the highest prices. There's only a few buyers out there that are willing to pay insane amounts to say they are the first. Flippers are rushing to get their cars to the market in hopes of nabbing one of these guys. Once these buyers get their cars, the prices quickly drop and stabilize to more reasonable levels. I'd say if you are willing to wait half a year, you will pay a lot less for a Pista. Still significantly over sticker, but I reckon far less than $160K.

With that said, if it was a choice between a Pista Aperta and a 458 Speciale Aperta for the same money, I would choose the Speciale 10/10 times..

I see your conundrum. Several statements stick out. Wanting the newest and best - well as soon as another version comes out that's gone. $160K over on a non LE car? At that price it will drop like a rock and keep going. Don't know what purpose it would serve - there are other interesting toys to toy with. One you can drive without regretting mikes - none of the FCars you stated. Speciale Aperta and F12 TDF are true LEs but mileage will remove the value quickly. Maybe take up another hobby? At any rate, paying $160K over on a Pista A that is already well overpriced and non LE is crazy talk considering your concerns. Maybe a Special A with high miles might be the tradeoff for you.

Indeed, because the Speciale is a LE (limited Edition) car and a NA car … it will keep its value imo.

Well, i wasn’t happy when I realized there wasn’t a radio and there was the added cost of the carbon parts but I still bought the car because I think it was a honest mistake on the dealer’s part and I’ve been looking forward to collecting the pista. If it showed up in a wrong color or if the mistakes were made on a regular 488, I would have had them reorder the car. Ferrari dealers gets away with lots of things.....

I think no radio on a pista or Speciale would be ok for resale vs no radio on a GT, ie lusso or Portofino. I’m just going to keep it for a while. Maybe they’ll sell me a pista spider.

I'd leave that up to the dealer to find out if it were me - which i'm sure you will do when you trade it for spider. Enjoy both - spider being more the keeper having your desired spec fulfilled.
Pretty sure they wont make the same mistake twice....

Welcome to the world of Ferrari! Until the economy tanks again, they will get their way like no other brands. I still remember people cancelling their orders on scuds and 16M and 599 GTOs during the last downturn. this game won’t last if Ferrari is making these cars “special edition” instead of “limited numbered” cars.
