    I’d say he’s for real.

This based on the Ferraris he owns, the standard to which they are maintained, his keen approach to acquiring knowledge about the Countach, his diligence in the search for the right car, and the content of his posts.

All of which puts his question in perspective.

Funny story, I purchased that book circa 1985, and had it in my possession when I went to the ticket counter @ Rome airport where I promptly walked away and left it behind! A few years later I replaced it with a later edition after I purchased a Downdraft.

I unstandstand your statement because when i bought the book i thought the same exact thing- why photo shoot on the cover a car with the DOT appendages? The book is not specific to just N American cars, so i figured it was maybe just what the factory had available that day...?

I’m sure you’re right. Interestingly, inside the book, they have photos of QV’s in both Euro and DOT configurations, both downdrafts.

Those who know more on this topic can correct if I’m wrong, but I believe very early on in QV production, there were a certain amount of downdrafts that were legally imported into the US prior to more restrictive DOT regulations taking affect and thus the fuel injected version.

Sure, but without the VIN, btw the side indicators/Parking lights are wrongly mounted for a swiss car.
Most likely done after the Export.

It is true Joe. Yellow lights are easier on the eye. I used to spend my vacations in the 70s and 80s in Italy and I always dreaded crossing the border at night. so did my father before me. The italian lights were an awful bright white.
We (the French drivers) were wonderign why they did not use yellow lights.

    Thank you for sharing Leo.

Perhaps the fog-lamp itself is not original, close but different

There isn't much of a discussion to be had as established facts don't change, the Downdraft was the Lamborghini factory's pure performance version of the QV, it's more powerful, and more valuable, nothing's changed.

The only thing that's new in this discussion is that on a personal level, as a consultant in the market for Supercars, I straight-up honestly advise people to always buy a carbureted Countach, any variant of carbureted Countach, LP400, LP400S, LP500S, Downdraft or Anniversary. The reasons I give are primarily that the Countach was designed to be a carburetted car, and as such, therein lies the true Countach experience. As the wisdom is received and tastes refine with the passage of time as always happens in the automotive world, carbureted Countachs will become more and more revered, actually, this has become evident in the last few years alone.

Given the opportunity, I most certainly will try, I've been fortunate to help over half-a-dozen great people find great Downdrafts.

    Exactly, on both counts.

    Correct.

Awesome, I'd love to get our car there and photograph it in that spot.

Sometimes shared information is proprietary until the point when you are allowed to disclose it, in this case this past week, where I disclosed this car's VIN here for the first time.

Meanwhile I thank those who share, which is how we came to find the silver Downdraft.

Indeed the parking lights have been inverted, and some hoses in the engine bay have non-original type clamps also.

An original mild-steel sport exhaust unit rescued & refurbished, it looks like a combination of mandrel & compression bends but the overall unit is nicer than some I have seen, old Ansa stickers burned off, likely has little mineral fiber left in the muffler tubes, will sound glorious

I love the culture of these cars in Japan.. how people regard them higher than the new cars and are so active with driving them. Always great to see.

Memorial Day weekend, 1986. That’s me at 17 about to drive the car of my dreams. I grew-up in a suburb of Detroit. My neighbor, Jerry Palmer, who was one of the chief designers at General Motors (he penned the 84 Corvette), brought this home from the GM design studio for the holiday weekend. GM owned many exotics and would study them. He brought other exotics of the time home on weekends as well. Honestly, I think their executives enjoyed them more.

Does anyone know what became of this particular car?

I remember this car. It was parked in a fenced in gated area at the GM Tech Center. I also was 16 or 17 at the time and I have pictures of it somewhere, that I took of the car, sitting next to a variety of cars at the Tech Center, GM had bought to study. If I find the photos I will post them. Brings back memories. I wanted a Countach EXTREMELY bad!!!
I also remember the owner of Eric's Gas station garage on Ryan and 13 1/2 mile bought the car from GM. I would go to the station to see it. He eventually sold it and I do not know where it went from there.
