Not true here either. Policy is that owner keeps car for holding period and then free to sell to whomever. I opt to sell my used cars on consignment at the dealer after the required holding period. They take a percent andthey tend to get more money on the retail side. Plus I then roll the sales tax credit into the next car. Win-win

I must be old, naive and dumb because I actually buy a car based on whether I like how it looks and drives.
The idea of financial gain has not been a factor for me.They are f'ing cars not the Holy Grail or cure for cancer.

Can not argue with that. An Italian company making "an offer I couldn't refuse."

Yup, I heard horror stories about Ferrari qualifying you for the top cars and I also seen people jump to the other high-end competitor side because of that BS. SMH

So I just picked up my 720 today. I now have both a 720 and a 488. For the life of me I can’t imagine playing these games anymore. There are so many good cars out there to choose from. The Pista is a great car I’m sure but the 720 is also in a league of its own. I’m a believer!

If you are tired of playing games, try another brand. So many good choices out there!

Kinda like a 488 Pista to a 720S. Obviously this can go on and on. The point of the 458 vs. 488 discussion was that subjectivities aside, as far as measurable metrics are concerned, the 488 bests the 458 in every one.

Many here claim that Ferrari's sales and merchandizing policies must be working well as the financial health of the company is very robust. Well, not so much if you are a stock investor. Share price has dropped to a current $117 from a 52 week high of $149. Current earnings report released yesterday missed on revenue consensus and the company has not be able to meet the consensus revenue estimates over the last four quarters.

I bet new competition has a lot to do with this + many getting annoyed with the sales tactics and people moving on. Ultimately I believe the company is stable but hitting rev goals (unless revised) will be a challenge for economic reasons.

For all of us old guard too tired of the games, there are many younger or newly wealthy in the wings ready to play the game. Have seen this first hand at Pebble, etc. Ferrari doesn’t care and moves on to the next sucker FWIS.

Regarding RACE stock performance, not surprised as the 488 has not been moving as well as needed as many have accurately reported here.

I was told that I can have a Pista coupe allocation if I buy a 488 (which happens to be available new), and hold it for 6 months before trading.
My goal was to obtain a spider to replace my CaliT, but since that isn’t going to happen, I am going to either keep the CaliT or build a Portofino.
I question the tangible and intangible value of the Pista to me and at what it will ultimately cost me? Will I take a 40k loss in owning the 488 that I will not drive? Will the Pista be an asset that will increase in value if I sell it in 6 months, a year or even 2 years from now if it is hardly driven? Ultimately, will it provide me with the status required to purchase a new sports series model early in the production cycle and/or a special series Aperta during the next generation? Lots of questions and I am hoping someone knows the definitive answers.

take the Pista. That is the bottom line. Whatever downside from the 488 will be mitigated in all the ways that matter with the Pista. ORDER a Port as well with a 2020 delivery....

I think buying a 488 now so late in production and given its sales performance and popularity would be unwise financially. However, it would bring favor if you are trying to play the game for allocations but then your assigned dealership only has so many of those and you have to compete with folks who likely have a lot more time and capital tied up already. Just depends on your desired relationship with the brand and your time horizon.

I think your loss will be greater than 40k based on trade numbers I've seen from a close friend. I'd venture to say your looking more at 60-80k on a coupe, as his delivery mile spider was almost 90k below sticker.

Why bother owning a car for 6 months, even if it goes up? your return is still going to be anemic and pale in comparison to the market. If you can't make 10-15% in 6 months, find a new source of info or brokerage to help you. No, I dont think it will help with your status, too many other buyers doing the same. You want status, race Ferrari challenge.

Its amazing that some cosmetic changes and some minor engine upgrades to the 488 make it worth 45% more. It’s essentially the same car with some different bumpers and a few more HP on a car that is already incredibly fast at 661HP. If the frame was different and if the engine had some new tech to blast past 850HP then I would understand but the hype for a cosmetic makeover is incredible. It’s the exact same interior as well. Why are these so desirable? I just found out I can get a late allocation but I can’t justify it compared to the 488 I already have. I can’t imagine the looks alone will do it for me and the small performance difference would never be noticed by me and my driving skills. It’s actually fascinating how F can create this demand for this product.

On the other hand the new one that is supposed to be above the 488 replacement and below LF should be killer. I suspect that will be the one to drool over but at a very high cost if they are getting $450k plus for the Pista.
