You should get out more, the leafy Eastern suburbs are full of them. There would be at least a couple if dozen in the Essendon and Moonee Ponds area. I see them every day now, even out in of the Bad Lands of the outer western suburbs where real estate agents have to taken to running them.

I believe there are about 3000 Tesla's registered in in Oz now, not bad when you consider they are mostly $200k to $290k cars new.

Besides that not being true, you have to take into account the high costs of the vehicles. How many $200-$300k cars of any description do you see in the less affluent suburbs?

How often do you drive more than 400km in one go Simon? That is the real world range of my P100D cars. The lower performance 100D models get closer to 500km. That is way more than 99% of users will ever require.

Brilliant 100% correct description of the residents of the inner north suburbs of Canberra.

    It is
in many parts of the world. Should be here too. Growing incidences of lung cancer in cyclists who ride on the roads are pointing to this.

Don't worry, all the lung health bodies in Australia lobby governments constantly. Unfortunately the issue is masked by smoking - the overwhelming cause of lung disease. As smoking rates drop, there'll be more attention paid. For example, a major source of soot particles from roads is carbon black from tyres.

If I were a regular cyclist in the city, I'd be wearing a mask.

If you go the back way, through Charters Towers,to Brisbane,535klm,then to Clermont about 365klm,100klm to Emerald then 380 to Roma. Then head west to the coast not so bad but you'd be cutting it fine as you should agree.
To go to Melbourne the shortest way you can't do it in a low clearance/front wheel drive due to about 40KLM of dirt, but if you can, then you knock off about 600klm of travel.....I know what I'd do.

    Why?
Makes perfect sense to someone who is used to long distance, outback driving.
It won't to those folk who think the only roads to use are those connecting capital cities with one another.

I’ll bow to your superior Tesla knowledge, but I always thought they were $120-150k cars, unless you get the most expensive version and tick every box on the list.

And I see many, many $120-150k+ cars every day, even in the scrubber parts of Adelaide that I live in and near.
I drive a 50km round trip virtually every day to work through a range of suburbs, from poor to quite wealthy.
And as I said, I hardly see any Tesla’s.

I would have thought by now they’d be a lot more common than they are, that’s all.

    I’ll ask my brother... :D

And, I agree. I find myself saying “****ing Audi drivers” more often than any other.

Use to be BMW drivers (although I was a model citizen during my 20 years of BMW ownership :p ) but the Audi crowd have now taken over the mantle

We must be close to that point now - what is the smoking rate in Aus these days? Bizarrely, the most recent complaints about smoking I've heard around here relate to health professionals - unbelievable that doctors and nurses still smoke.

Around 15%. Rate seems to have stabilised there unfortunately, no matter how much the taxes are increased.

Smoking went from endemic to almost nothing in HK by a campaign making it 'uncool'; unfortunately I don't think that would affect the Aussie remnant.
