I have noticed that several 308s have the area below the doors painted in the same color as the car. Was this optional or is this a sign of repaint? My QV has black color below the doors from front wheel to rear wheel.

The change of color scheme on the rocker panels (= the lower sheet metal under the doors and between the wheels) is a change of color scheme made by the factory, at about car #45000 (Sorry, I do not have a more precise number in mind anymore).
Before that car, and December 1983, all cars had the rocker panel with the upper part above the crease body color, and the lower part under the crease black.
After the said car and after December 1983, all cars had the whole rocker panel black.

Thanks for clarification! [emoji3526] This has been a mystery for me for a while. Interesting that the change is not introduced with a new "model" like with QV, but suddenly during production. One can think its of a reason more than cosmetic, maybe due to damages from small stones. Maybe it came together with the black window frame on 83 QV GTS...

What are those “cut outs” in front of the back wheels?

The passenger side is the air intake for the engine and the driver's side is an air intake that directs air through the oil cooler.

The lower cut outs?? Never saw them before this thread. Had my 308 since 2003 and attended many FCA events. You learn something from this forum every day!

That's a 208 Turbo - a 2 litre turbo version of the 308 sold primarily in Italy (but also NZ I believe) to get under a certain engine size for tax reasons.

I should have thought of that! I am sure JohnnyS didn’t understand which cut outs I was talking about. I like the look. Thank you, and have a happy Thanksgiving if you’re in the US!

I wonder if there are more of these in-the - middle - of-production - changes like the sudden color change on the lower part...
