Congrats on 600LT order and look forward to incoming. That will be a rocket around the track. Enjoy your Performante in the mean time an absolute killer car (the sound..oooh momma).
As a car enthusiast, not only do most prioritize driving cars, but many also enjoy the banter and discussions about them. They are not mutually exclusive.
I agree. Beating a dead horse. My favorite posts are from those who actually have driving experience in the cars under discussion and relate their individual opinions.
Exactly. Go drive whatever the hell you have and tell us about it. Other than that I don’t give a Pista.
Even better--I'd wait personally 7LT. Until then Performante is a great place to drop the ass into and drive.
O’Gara has a blue 600LT on the floor. They offered me a test drive. I think you’re local so I’d go over and take it for a spin. Supposedly the handling/steering feedback is phenomenal.
Correct. I love that you can spec 6pt harness belts. Looks stunning in red. I cant seem to warm to the exterior looks and the lack of brilliant exhaust sound though. I dont hold out hope the 720 LT will fix the latter.
None of the Mclaren's have a "brilliant exhaust sound". my 720 has the upgraded exhaust and my 488 blows it away. But honestly it doesn't bother me cause my wife hates loud cars and the 720 seems to work out well
I have the link to the 600lt configurator on my computer- just need to check to see which colors are actually available.
Got 600 configurator a while back - no longer interested now. If I didn't have a 488 it may be a different story but since the 2 arrived I've lost interest in 600 totally - would eat it for breakfast everywhere. 600 is perhaps a proposition for those w/o a 488 already although personally I think 488 is still a better proposition for a number of reasons.....which I prefer not to go into.
It’s a completely different car than 488. 600 is more harsh and more track oriented. 488 not so much.
A case of harsher not necessarily being better.... lap times tell the story on that. As a track weapon it may have certain merits though.....although I'd personally take a 4.0 3 or 3rs for dedicated track duty....again for reasons I prefer not to go into. 488 otoh is a car that meets all demands - not just a "one trick pony".
For sure. Harsh is fine if there is a benefit over the competition on a circuit. Doesn't appear to be the case here though....looking at the numbers. I think 600 is a little late to the party as a model looking at what else is available. Won't be long before the 5 platform is changed either I suspect.
Hey, dustman, I finally had almost an hour test drive for both the performante coupe and 720S couple days ago. I was offered a 600LT allocation on the spot. Can I ask you why you chose 600LT over 720S? For me, the 720S is just super crazy fast to the point that I think I will never ever had a chance to drive it to 30% of its potential, so I thought "maybe" 600LT is enough. I never was a Mclaren customer, but strangely the steering feel and feedback is very much similar to the Lotus Evora 400 I have, which I like a lot... Do you think 600LT is going to be that fun?
I can't speak dustman...but I would add my opinion if allowed. I had a Performante on order. I think it's an amazing car--just a monster on track and the sound just makes one smile ear to ear every drive. As to 600 vs 720, allocations for 600 can be had at any dealer as it's limited production not edition. However with the MSRP they will ask in the $275 range, (specced correct) you can get a (3k mile +/-) 720 for $300'ish, it's almost a no brainer to grab a 720. Again, depending about purpose and rest of toys in garage. For me 720 ended up being an ideal fit, just sealed deal on 19.
I'd agree 720 is the better car (and buy) than 600 which leaves the model at a loose end, and probably why allocations are still readily available. I also can't imagine take up for 600 being that great with 488, LP as alternatives. So you'd really want to love the 600 enough over the others to even consider buying it really. And it's most certainly no fall back for a Pista, 2rs or even .2 3rs for that matter (the 3 representing better property overall). At least the 720 can cut muster with Pista and 2rs from a performance figures standpoint. The most interesting feature of the 600 to many appears to be about the flames and batmobile exhaust concept......but I'm not sure if that novelty will last long enough or make enough of a difference in the long run. Anyway we are all getting way way off the beaten track here so let's back to topic - "Pista qualifying demands" or start another thread perhaps.
That's fine I'm happy to take the blame if it makes you feel better, but from what I just read back over it all took a sharp turn after your negative reaction to yellow murci's post - and then the usual suspects came in to play (socal etc). Anyway....whilst the diversion was fun, I was just pointing out we were all getting ourselves way off the beaten track of the OP that's all. But feel free to continue...I'm not the fashion police here.
This thread got derailed long ago when other brands got mentioned. HOWEVER, I congratulate Pista owners, I think the car looks great and it took something to get one. I would love a drive one and think MAYBE other brands had something to do with F getting something out like this. Quite frankly no matter the brand, the one up is always what it's been about and keeps everyone on their toes. Bravo to Pista buyers.
