Hello I have been recently looking into a flwwheel lock tooL for the 456. I have seen the vice grip method for the cam pulleys and as a Last resort will use this. I was at Hill Engineering to buy some bearings and asked whether their flywheel tool (AV3546) for the 550 would work on a 456 and they couldn't find any info on this. http://www.hillengineering.co.uk/95973546-av3546- Has anyone got any experience with this tool and weather its good for a 456GT? Also Is there a tool to lock the Cam pully's?
Ferrari manual calls for vice grips. Pulleys are metal and can easily take the stress. Dealers do it this way. VG leave plenty of room to work. In my opinion vg is best option. Not sure why you would want to do it another way? Just because it’s cheap?
Vice grips are barbaric - they side load the pulleys, scratch the finish, etc. Make something from wood to get the job done.
Works on the 575M and 612, but I would send an e-mail to Paul Hill and ask about the 456 GT. The only thing the flywheel lock is used for is removing the crank nut without having to use an impact wrench, but that alone is very worthwhile.
Hey I did email you guys about your 355 cam lock tool and If it can be adapted to the 456GT. It wasn’t compatible I was told. It would great If you could consider making this tool as It would work on many models.
I have worked on 100's of cars and just about every model of Ferrari prior to 2004. I have never needed a cam lock tool, vise grips for that job, or flywheel locking tool.

Hi Brian, actually have to loose the cam pulley bolt. Have to remove the front cover and the lower drive to chase the 'usual' rattling noise and after that am afraid timing check will be unavoidable. What's the best way to lock cams to remove the bolt ? Incidentally , and since the rad is still the car, have not enough space to use an air impact wrench since mines (2) are both too big..... Tks for any help on this matter
