I would much prefer a dedicated thread to those who have unmolested, pure cars and who have dedicated their time and effort to preserving their cars as the factory intended.

I think there's a distinction between "as the factory intended" and "as the factory were forced to do". I don't think the factory intended the Countach to have the DOT appendages, but were forced to.

Yes we are on the same page 99.5%.

The MacF1 import program was an outsourced deal with the same intent the only difference being a group of lawyers deciding the best way to skirt.

That’s exactly what I’ve sought to establish here in this thread as the content underscores, and I feel that in years to come, it’ll be appreciated better and those who favor preserving the cars as the original artisans made them, will be glad they took that position.

At this point @ 3 years after starting this Downdraft thread, the basic attributes and differences of this variant have become universally known. Moving forward, I think these cars are deserving of this type of dedication, as a result, there are a number of interesting things in the works to pay homage to the Downdraft in the upcoming year.

Meanwhile I think all the other threads are good also, the more the merrier, there must be a place for all ideas and all preferences.

As one who hopes to be a downdraft owner one day, one thing I would love to see more of is deeper analysis into the original parts, componants and materials used by Lamborghini, and the best present-day solutions to either acquire OE parts or the finest matching solutions available today. Having said that, I understand that this comes from questions regarding specific topics related to the cars.

Very difficult to put a fine point on some of these topics- the Bertone DD lost its side mirrors a long time ago.. replaced by very Out of Place ones imo.. is this car “modified”?

OE Parts: I thought we had a sticky for cross over Parts? Either way Raymond,Joey,Mike,Emilio and many others have shared Parts knowledge- many bolt on items were widely used ie a/c compressor, alternator, brakes.. Lamborghini did not design or build such parts. In fact, what Lamborghini “built”, was actually a pretty short list.

We’ve had quite a bit of that discussed in this thread and we’ll have more.

The Bertone Downdraft retains it’s original door mirrors, I think perhaps you are confusing that car with Tonino Lamborghini’s Downdraft, which has F40 mirrors. Yes it’s modified, subtly, with Nardi steering wheel and steel pedal pads as well.

yeah. I do not know why they did this, mostly on switz cars. they call this the Bobnard extension I beleive. I do not know where they found the beauty in it. i guess that stuff has got to go..

I was talking about the entire realm of mods. Do not get me wrong: I do understand people who convert for esthetics. I am not judging here. However from an hisotical point it just does not makes sense. If someone wants a euro DD they should buy a euro DD. If they like the fuel injection (and, right or wrong, we know many like the idea of not having carb tuning) then they just should go along with the ugly bumpers if that is not bothering them too much.
I'll be honest, If I wanted a fuel injection 10 years ago, I would have done the convertion. Buying one today, I would not and would rather live with the bumpers. I just become more of a purist I guess. Ideally, switching the bumpers but doing it so they can be easily put back on would be the best compromise.

They were made at the works to apply the car's very first June 1986-issue plates, so it's likely they will be left as the car is 100% original having never had any paintwork

Understood, back then they were less particular and the cars were less valuable.

In accordance with Rossocorsa1's request for the posting of original parts, components and materials, I am going to start posting more of same from my personal archives.

Some of this material will find it's way into a publication one day.

Let's start with the Downdraft's Crowning Glory, the 6 Weber 44 DCNF vertical twin-barrel carburetors that adorn the 'Carburatori' version of the now-legendary 'Motore Tipo L 507 V4', affectionately known these days to enthusiasts the world over simply as the Countach Downdraft
