So please explain why we give millions in subsidies to the industries I mentioned? The price of energy has not risen due to renewables but because of privatisation and mismanagement. Do you really believe companies like BP and Shell are planning for renewables based on leftist ideology rather than economics?

BP & Shell are businesses, they are simply responding to market signals - ie responding to different opportunities - as one door closes, another opens. They couldn't care less if they sell product "A" or product "B", as long as they sell something.

And the energy price has risen in the last 10 years entirely due to the unpredictable supply of renewable power impacting the grid.

Dispatchable generation refers to sources of electricity that can be used on demand and dispatched at the request of power grid operators, according to market needs. Dispatchable generators can be turned on or off, or can adjust their power output according to an order. This is in contrast with non-dispatchable renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power which cannot be controlled by operators.

The cheapest form of dispatchable power in Oz is coal, the more costly alternative is gas turbine. There is not really enough Hydro to make it a factor.
Because governments have signalled they don't want coal fired power stations, the current operators are essentially running their assets in to the ground and not investing in long term maintenace. As the coal power stations shut down, gas turbine takes up the slack, and gas turbine power is much more expensive than coal.

To improve the dispatchabilty reliabilty of renewables you need the generation assetts widely dispersed, ie turbines and solar in lots of different places so that (hopefully) the sun is shining somewhere ( or the wind blows). The catch is you need to build a lot of renewable power to get anywhere near the reliabilty of dispatchable power, this also means a massively upgraded grid.
Some people like to quote that renewables are already cost effective compared to coal as a source of dispatchable power - the industry consensus is you need to build around 2.7 times the peak demand in generation capacity of renewables in a dispersed grid to provide anything remotely like predictable dispatchable power.
The economic problem with building a lot of renewables is that with 2.7 times over capacity, the utililsiation is low most of the time. That means the cost of power has to be higher, to pay for the assets that is only generating revenue for part of the time. Power storage can be used to improve dispatchabilty, battery technology is still very expensive and Australia has only limited opportunites for stored hydro.
    It's pretty simple really.
